Yep, character does matter, and what we have been hearing in the media recently has been quite shocking. I thought you might like to see another side of one of the candidates. It appears there is more to the Bain Capital story than is being told, so I hope this story below is informative.
Romney's character.... This facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle.
In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.
Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter.

Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.
That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a house in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day.
Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”
So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.
Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar.
When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and would not use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.
Character counts!! (and yes...that's worth reading again!)
It's nice to hear something positive about one of the candidates for a change.

Doubtful he'd want his family to know he was bullied and there was nothing he
could do about it.

human, and they feel shame for their abusive acts.
Romney either has Alzheimer's or he's a afraid to be a presidential and
take a stance on being a scumbag bully.
Obama ate dog in a country that eats dog. People still eat dog in many
countries. Romney put his best friend in a cage on the roof of his car.
Both acts are disgusting to me, I'm and animal lover.
I've traveled and I know how it can be to turn down food in a
developing country. Sometimes you have to eat what they eat,
there's not much choice. But Romney did not have to put his dog in
a cage, on his roof.
I hope Romney is not suffering from Alzheimer's.
All those years unPAID????? Even obie never worked unpaid. LOL< Mitt, better all the way around.

In September 2010, Mitt Romney invited all of the Republican candidates for the New Hampshire Senate to lunch in a conference room in Concord. He thanked them for running for office, then gave each of them a $1,000 check made out to their campaigns. “He did it in a very personal manner. It wasn’t an impersonal, get-the-check-in-the-mail type of thing,” recalls Jim Rausch, one of the candidates. “I appreciated it.”
It isn’t just state Senate candidates: No New Hampshire politician, it turns out, is too insignificant to get a check from Romney. Small-town Republican committees, county sheriffs, and district attorneys have all have been recipients of his largesse. Often, the money is accompanied by personal courting. CANDIDATES HAVE PLIED New Hampshire with disproportionate attention for decades. But few if any presidential contenders have passed around money in the state as prodigiously as Romney. Starting in 2006, Romney began donating to local Republicans through his “leadership PAC,” which could raise unlimited sums from wealthy backers. Last year alone, Romney distributed more than $1 million to candidates around the country, far more than his rivals. Tom Rath, the New Hampshire power broker who serves as a well-remunerated adviser to Romney, was blunt in a 2010 interview with National Journal: “We’ve been up here a lot. Our checks have been up here, too.” http://www.tnr.com/article/po...
Where's all this generosity of wealth come from? Untold millions stored offshore to avoid taxes.
Of course, this wealth allows him to PAY people to PRETEND they're supporters.
One only wonders what these people were paid.
As you can see. Romney is definitely not GREEDY with his money...if it benefits HIM!!!!
Then there is Mitt Romney, who strongly adheres to the conservative dogma that it did it without help. Well, not quite. First of all, it didn’t hurt to start off having a wealthy and politically connected father who paid for his two Harvard degrees!
Then there is his company, Bain Capital, which, he claims, represents the results of “hard work” and “freedom” (from government interference, etc.).
One of Bain’s ventures was financing an Indiana company called Steel Dynamics, now with 6,000 employees. However, as the Los Angeles Times reports, “Steel Dynamics also received generous tax breaks and other subsidies provided by the state of Indiana and the residents of DeKalb County, where the company's first mill was built.” Also, “the state and county pledged $37 million in subsidies and grants for the $385-million plant project. The county also levied a new income tax to finance infrastructure improvements to benefit the steel mill over the heated objections of some county residents.”
Romney has claimed that “what happens in America that creates jobs is not government. It has its role. But by and large, it gets in the way of creating jobs,” the Times notes. Yet, ...

Romney has claimed that “what happens in America that creates jobs is not government. It has its role. But by and large, it gets in the way of creating jobs,” the Times notes. Yet, the Times article notes, as governor of Massachusetts he lured a lot of businesses to the state by offering taxpayer subsidies.
More examples include:
· In Kansas City, GS Industries, financed by Bain Capital, “went bankrupt in 2001, causing more than 700 workers to lose their jobs, health insurance and a part of their pensions. Before going under, the company paid large dividends to Bain partners and expanded its Kansas City plant with the help of tax subsidies. It also sought a $50-million federal loan guarantee,” according to the Times story.
· According to a report by Ari Burman in The Nation, two other companies financed by Bain included: Sealy, a leading mattress company purchased by Bain and other private equity firms, received “$600,000 from state and local authorities in North Carolina to move its corporate offices, a research center and a manufacturing plant from Ohio. In 2004 Bain and its partners sold Sealy to another private equity group.” Then there was a company called “GT Bicycles,” where in 1997 when it was owned by Bain and other investors, “decided to move its manufacturing operations to an enterprise zone in Santa Ana, California. Being in the zone gave the company, which was later purchased by Schwinn, special tax credits relating to hiring and the purchase of equipment.”
· A Time Magazine article noted the following examples of Bain financed company’s receiving government subsidies: Steam International got $4.5 million worth of government subsidies; Alliance Laundry Systems received $1.81 million, while Burger King Corp. received $3 million in tax dollars.
An in-depth story by Mother Jones revealed more government support for Romney’s company, such as:
“AMC Entertainment. After being promised more than $40 million in subsidies, this movie chain (bought in 2004 by Bain and other private equity firms) agreed to move its headquarters from downtown Kansas City, Missouri to a nearby suburb across the state line in Kansas. The deal was criticized as an egregious case of taxpayer-financed sprawl. [Even though Romney left Bain in 1999, he's continued reaping millions in lightly taxed investment income since then.]
Mother Jones also notes that: “As for the office supply store Staples, a supposed success Romney frequently touts? In 1996, the company chose to move its distribution center to Maryland in exchange for a healthy $4.2 million subsidy deal.”
Yet another example is provided by Lee Fang writing in Salon:
Shortly after Bain took control of Holson in 1987, executives pushed for the company to expand in the South. Officials from the firm had negotiated with Gov. Carroll Campbell, a Republican, to extend $200,000 in utility support for a new Holson plant in the city of Gaffney. The local city council also approved a $5 million bond for construction, after meeting with representatives from Holson. Five years after South Carolina’s taxpayers had helped finance the factory, Bain chose to sell Holson’s Gaffney facility for $2.8 million. Romney’s firm reaped the profits on the taxpayers’ expenditure.
Romney’s use of taxpayer funds is not an exception but rather the rule. Virtually every major corporation has sought after and used taxpayer funds. It is called “corporate welfare.” The Wall Street Journal has noted that
Corporate welfare is the offer of special favors—cash grants, loans, guarantees, bailouts and special tax breaks—to specific industries or firms. The government doesn't track the overall cost of these programs, but in 2008 the Cato Institute made an attempt and came up with $92 billion for fiscal 2006, which is more than the U.S. government spends on homeland security. That annual cost may have doubled to $200 billion in this new era of industry bailouts and subsidies. According to the House Budget Committee, the 2009 stimulus bill alone contained more than $80 billion in "clean energy" subsidies, and tens of billions more went for the auto bailout and cash for clunkers, as well as aid for the mortgage industry through programs to refinance or buy up toxic loans. http://www.sheldensays.com/se...
