Did You Know That Solar Energy Is Already Here And Becoming More Available Very Quickly?

I am ready for Solar Power!
Solar Power will help the Economy.
Solar Power will eventually replace Oil.

I have mentioned that Boulder, Colorado has several Solar Powered
homes and that Channel 7 in Denver just went completely Solar.
There are more Businesses going Solar and already we have
Harris Tea and Kent Denver School in Colorado. I have only
researched Colorado but other States are becoming more
aware of the advantages of Solar Power.

The latest news I found is that Denver International Airport
is going completely Solar. And just this past week Ikea opened
it's first store in Colorado and it is completely Solar.

The future is here....so all of you who say Solar Power won't
work, guess again! I believe this is the beginning of our getting
away from our dependency on oil and helping our Economy.
This will bring more jobs here and lower our costs of maintaining
our homes.

I have also seen more and more windmills showing up, I guess a sign of things was when I was in the part of this state that depended on coal for its livelihood, leaving a town that met its demise because of a mine fire underneath it, and there was a big windmill farm outside of one of the mining sites. But I think these are good ideas and hopefully will start to break the stranglehold that the utility companies have on us

Solar power is basically not economically practical right now. Does Solyndra ring a bell?

Solar power has a place but will never be a majority player in the energy market. Fine for small homes with grid backup, can't fun a factory on it ;-) Oh yeah, and their production produces toxic waste, and there will be millions of them to recycle or dispose of in about 20 years. I think they are getting cleaner. They aren't cost effective yet, taxpayers have to subsidize the buyers, and the manufacture, so they are a screw in that way. (shrug)

already completely Solar along with major stores & a few schools. One of the
Automobile Companies is coming out with a Solar Car next year.

I've likely studied solar longer than you have been alive :P I'm just pointing out some of the realities, you can not run, say, a foundry using solar. Actually fuel cells are more the future than solar is, but solar as I said has a place. I think that if you are honest you will see that not 1% of homes in Colorado are solar powered. Those that are were subsidized.

Actually they feed the grid and get a check. Were you around when CARTER signed the law to allow us to feed the grid? Heh. You didn't adress what I said either, even if you like solar, it's subsidized because without subsidy it won't sell. Again, you must know that not 1% of houses in CO are solar powered ;-)

I don't get all my information from the internet because you can't believe

There are millions of homes that are in predominantly sunny areas around this country. Even if just those homes had solar inter-tie systems (without batteries) installed it would reduce our energy consumption by an enormous amount.

The current corporate powers will do there best to slow this process... just like they have done with automobiles. In the mid 80s I knew a guy driving his Mazda 323 diesel getting 50 MPG!

I lived in a solar heated house. It was mine in 1979. I froxe my ass off all winter. Is this any better? In the Summer the gentle temps were as Hot as hell all the Summer. I called the people who installed everything They disappeared. For the destruction of my house they owe me some 300,000 I'll take it out of his hide if I I cannot get te money.

Presently, solar power costs over 4 times as much as that produced by coal or natural gas. Far into the future I do believe that technology will finally prevail and solar will be dominant. This will not happen for decades to come. The cost of installing solar systems is high, maintenance is high and it does depend on mostly cloudless days and many lead-acid batterie to store the unused energy supplied during the day. By the way, the batteries have to be replaced every 4 or 5 years, adding another expense to your system, just like electric cars.

I would have hoped so, like yourself. However, I am a manufacturing engineer and an energy efficiency auditor who knows it's too costly and will be for some time to come. Give it 20 to 40 years and I then I'll bet it will be a yes. It is just not dependable right now.

Government needs to continue to subsidies it if not even more, then we need to put tariffs on solar panels that are imported, these are nearly identical steps that lead to the creation of Toyota.

The only problem with solar power is its reliance on the sun.
Where I live, winter is usually very gloomy, with not many sunny days, and if I had only solar power to rely on, it would get very cold and dark.
We need to have multiple options, personally I think nuclear power is the way to go.

You have power at night & on cloudy days if it is done right.
If you have Solar you would be the one to have power when
    the electricity is out.
Nuclear Power is too dangerous...we have 2 Power Plants in
Nebraska that are islands in the Missouri flood. If the levees
don't hold, it will be the largest Nuclear disaster ever.

Nuclear power is safe as long as it is maintained properly. The US Navy has been using nuclear power for over 40 years without an accident. It probably isn't viable everywhere, but neither is solar, wind, hydro. Exactly why I think we need a multi-faceted approach.
Indiana is very flat, and wind power is already making in-roads here. We don't get much flooding, almost never an earthquake (and those we do get are around 3 - 4 on richter scale) so nuclear would be safe here, as well.
But, we have no major rivers to speak of, so hydro is out, and as I said earlier, solar probably would not be enough on its own to get through the winter.
