Did We Attack Libya Because of Their Oil?

And the hits keep coming! President Obama's decision to launch a military strike in Libya in support of a United Nations resolution is coming under increased criticism from politicians who believe he acted hastily, without a long-term plan, and, perhaps most importantly, without their approval.

But one high-ranking Democrat, Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), has a different concern. Markey says that we've involved ourselves in the war in Libya not because of a desire to protect defenseless citizens from Moammar Gaddafi, but to protect Libya's millions of barrels of oil.

Markey spoke to Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC:

"We are in Libya because of oil ... It all goes back to the 5 million barrels of oil we import from OPEC on a daily basis."

if you say we did not invade for oil then your just plane DUMB!
lol you guy sbelieve government crap that say they are there to save civilians but n reality more civilians have died since the invasion (and its america that kills them)
wake up! its purely for selfish reasons! aka oil and money

Look, if we attacked to "protect the lives and freedoms of the innocent civilians" then we would also need to attack the governments of all of the other countries that abuse their people (which is a lot). However we didn't attack them specifically for oil. Libya only produces about 2% of the worlds oil supplies so it shouldn't be as big of an issue as it is. The real problem is that the media made a big deal of how much this crisis would affect oil prices and the people just ate it up, which resulted in people freaking out, which resulted in oil stocks dropping, which resulted in oil prices rising. We had to attack Libya and pretend that we wanted to protect the civilians and restore order so that people would trust oil stocks again. If you want to find out who is at fault for the attack on Libya, just look in a mirror you mindless media entranced zombies! I apologize to the few rational thinking non-zombies for that last statement.

We went in there to save innocent civillians from being massacred and aid the resistance to the murderer Gadaffi, not for oil...

How can anyone take you seriously if you are going to use the english language as you are? At minimum, complete a sentence in appropriate fashion. I'm having a hard time stating in public that i agree with what you are saying. But since you are right about the fights our government chooses, then i will approve of your message 100%. But please carry your message with professionalism and appropriate grammer.

Not for the oil WE use in the US. That oil is refined in and stays in Europe. It's a different grade of oil than we refine and use in the US.

We did not attack Libya for oil just like we did not invade Iraq or oil. The most ironic thing is that the same Senators that were against Iraq and Afghanistan are also in favor of Libya. To liberals war is all about politics. By the way libs where was the congressional approval for starting a war with LIbya?

Of course. We never go after nations without oil....Darfur or Congo or other african nations without resources are either controlled by dictators the US/UK and other colonizers set up. Obama will regret bringing Biden, Clinton, and the other 100% zionists into his cabinet...

Did President Bush line up a bunch of oil tankers outside Iraq after that war? No though he should have. We import less than 1% of oil from Libya so no, we're not there for the oil. Perhaps a little payback to Kadafi but more than likely, it's just business.
Funny that the French are leading the way.

No one will openly admit it. But, it's almost always about money or power.
And what does oil do? Oil creates money. Money creates Power.
The Western World can never get too much of either.

Who told you Libya has almost no oil? It´s one of the riches oil natons in the world. They supply much of Western Europe´s needs, and China is an expanding market for them. That should give you a clue. LOL.

OK, now I get it. This isn´t about anything other than protecting Obama´s reputation (I use the word very lightly BTW) LOL. Actually, I never even gave the skinny retard a moments thought regarding this whole thing, because any idiot knows, the only decision the Kenyan makes is whether or not he should screw his ugly wife.
He´s ZOG´s puppet on a string, nothing more. He´s an insignificant worm that is making your once great country the laughing stock of the world. Personally, you can keep him as long as you want.
