-----
CHARLESTON, S.C.
(AP) -- A skateboarder performing a trick at a city park here wiped out with
some help -- a police officer pushed him into a hedge.
----
Some argue the skateboarder, Corey Dowds, 19, provoked the female police officer or maybe did it to capture the event on video (his brother captured the event on camera).

Wouldn't you agree that the lack of respect for authority should hold serious consequences? I wish the cops had more rights to uphold law.

I think this was a racial incident. If the skateboarder had been black. I don't think the offices would have done that.

That's the way it looks from the video, But I don't know what happened before the video started. Maybe the kid was a wiseass and should be glad that was all that happened.

cause when they are sk8ing and you are doing a trick and get pushed when you are in the air it hurts like crazy it happened to one of my friends and he broke his leg so bad he had to be whellchaired for a long time.

I wish there was an undecided button because it depends on the situation. If she had already told him to get off she could have written him up rather than bushed him.
Police need to do their job, but remember that some skaters are actually a little mentally slow from falling on their heads so much. (No offense skaters.)

hahahaa. LOL about the part of "a little mentally slow". They should change the cliche to:
Skate boarding is not a crime, it just makes you mentally slow
Even if the officer warned him, pushing seems like it could only contribute to his slowness by forcing him to fall on his head again.

Exactly! Does this woman (man-thing?) really want more "mentally slow" children in this world? I THINK NOT!

I thought they went to special training to manage that sort of anger. Would be OK in a police run state but last time I look we are not a police run state. Well not yet anyway.

This kid was in the wrong --- skating should be in special desingnated places someone could get hurt other than the skate boarder!!
  • Fef True~Male 2007/04/19 21:22:41

Agreed on the skaterboarder doing the wrong thing. But people got outraged by the police office pushing him into the bushes. I think she got surprised and acted out of reaction with a little toughness that the police needs to have. I hope she learns to control her actions more and not get so surprised next time.

I agree, she the officer should have had some constraints about her. But we don't know if this has been an on-going thing or not --personally I dislike seeing skateboarders on public or personal property. That is why I think its important that we have Skate parks for those who enjoy it, We have racing grounds for those that like to race , ballparks for those who enjoy playing ball. I hate to see kids playing ball in the streets too.

what its true, the city is the best place to skate i love skating. theres just so much out there thats not in a skate park. when ever my family goes out to eat i bring my sk8 board and skate in the parking lot when im done, its just more fun

I totally understand why kids skate on city property and not in skate parks. Check the video games and see which courses the games offer -- some skate parks, but plenty of street skating. Does that encourage breaking the law?? hahaha.

If i saw him, I would have pushed much harder so that his fall would have been broken by the concrete behind the bush, not the bush itself.

As a little kid growing up I spent many, many, many hours playing cat and mouse with police on my skateboard. I am not saying that the police have a right 'beat' kids, but I know that this poor woman was driven to her edge before that happend.

However lots of kids intentionally provoke police officers.
Not sure if this was the case (didn't watch the video). She needs to manage her anger better.

YES, big time. The officer has the right to issue warning, ticket, or even arrest if the kid is acting violently. However, the case was that the officer has some issues and needs to be put on suspension and go to counseling and resolve them until she finishes dealing with her issues and to not put her hands on a kid.

I just don't consider what this officer did was "serve and protect" as she was sworn to do on her duties.

Skateboarders are criminals. There are a few who frequently skateboard at our church and vandalized the property by performing their stunts on the benches and curbs. They constantly litter and use foul and abusive language and are all together disrespectful! She should have gotten him with her tazer!

The police officer did not need to push the skater into the bushes. She had some anger inside her at that moment, but she must learn to manage it better.
