An intriging bit of discovery ..
combined with a workshop full of artists in training
(and definitely at its head .. someone who had more on his mind than Painting too)

This scoin of a Notary
son of an affair ..

this very creative ..
Mathematician .. Scientist .. Inventor ..
(you could say the TECH Geek of the Renaissance)
well versed in the Military/Defense Arts too
(concept of Helicopter in his sketches .. )

Was there more to his studio than just serious efforts?
were there some 'interesting' affairs?
did this THEME of the background and pose of the Mona Lisa
come through in various OTHER (perhaps .. baser class) of women ..
posed .. nude?

(AH .. yes, there actually are some attributed to his studio .. his inner circle of students/pupils)

This latest to show up of the "Variation on a Theme"
is part and parcel of the "Monna Vanna" series ..
(it is suspected the ladies in these are prostitutes/court mistresses)

(and curiously enough -- passed through the familial line of the Bonaparts (as in Napoleon))

With potentially another version also being looked at by experts in the Art History fields ..
this should prove to be another CURIOUS footnote ..
in a prolific school of Artists ..
and a very Inventive, curious mind at its head ..

An artist must first learn to draw that which is sustaining the draperie before learning to drape.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit.
They had the demimonde back then.
Popes had children and mistresses, why not Leonardo?

I have no idea, but Leonardo had a lot of interests and talents. Some think that the Mona Lisa is Leonardo himself.
