Did He Do The Right Thing???

Andy 2012/05/20 02:03:03

What would you do if you were in a grocery store, you turned into an aisle, and you saw a man beating his pregnant girlfriend? Would you run for help? How long would that take? Would it be too late by the time security arrived?

Ryan Young
worked at the meat counter of a Safeway supermarket. Reports say that
when Ryan saw a customer push and kick his pregnant girlfriend last
month, Ryan stepped in to stop the beating.

According to the press, Ryan's actions earned him praise from his local police chief, but not from his employer. Instead of treating Ryan like a hero, Safeway claimed Ryan should have called security and suspended him without pay while it investigates the "altercation." Pending the results of that investigation, Ryan could be fired for good.

Ryan says
one reason he felt so compelled to intervene is that he's an expectant
dad himself -- his wife is 5 months pregnant. "We're expecting a child,"
Ryan says. "I've been suspended for just about a month now without pay
for doing something I feel was right, that police said was right."

Indeed, local Police Chief Ron Langford told reporters, "In my mind, in this case Ryan did the right thing."

The police
have already turned over security footage of the incident to prosecutors
so that the man who beat his girlfriend can be charged, yet Ryan has
been suspended for almost a month with no income.

DID RYAN DO THE RIGHT THING... WAS SAFEWAY RIGHT TO SUSPEND HIM??

You!

Of course employee Ryan did the 100% right thing!...If she were on fire, should Safeway expect him to just stand there til the Fire Dept. arrived??!!

This was a goof by Safeway. Hopefully, they've rectified their mistake by now.

And yes, he did the right thing.

Sorry, my bad....! I was thinking if it happened in CA....the fellow that stepped in to help the pregnant lady..would be the one charged with endangering the child.
Its my understanding that they have some real strange "laws"......

It is my understanding that many, many businesses are leaving there for more "hospitable" locations.....

They have some real loonie tunes out there.... they have CARB, the California Air Resource Board that goes around trying to write tickets on truck drivers who are idling to stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer....even when the temps are dangerous....but the CARB cop's car is nice and warm or cool....

Lots of other wacko nonsense....too much to list, but a friend of mine who just retired and left there...after selling his business...said that probably in 5 years all that will be left in CA is welfare queens and the filthy rich...

Hollywood is slowly leaving as well....

Ryan did do the right thing. Sadly, the store is within their right to suspend or even fire him for it. I hope that they have compassion and do not fire him. Part of the difficulty in doing the right thing is that it may cause you to be persecuted. The store is protecting its interests by holding its employee accountable for accosting a customer, even if it was in defense of two other customers. As I have said in many other places, just because you have the right to do something does not make it the right thing to do.

Safeway should give this guy a medal! I've lost count of the number of news clips I've seen of people being victimized and bystanders refusing to intervene. It's heartening to know there are still some good Samaritans left in the world.

I wonder how the boss would've felt if someone was beating on his wife, pregnant or not...

Any normal person would think he did the right thing.

But the pacifist, politically correct, morons that run things think everyone should just sit there and let someone beat the crap out of them or someone else until the police manage to get there. I guess Safeway would be happier if the guy beat his pregnant girlfriend until her or the baby were seriously hurt or dead.

Humanly he did the right thing. Job wise he's in the wrong. Any place of work there is a rule of no heroes and call authorities. There is also a reason for this and that's to keep their employees safe. So honestly I think Safeway is in the right

I never said don't explore or expand on knowledge but if your mister low block then do your job and fallow the rules or be ready to lose something like maybe his job. Just like those that left to find America. They weren't welcome back to England because most were running from religious prosicusion

Its not an issue of brown nosing. There is a definite difference between kinky sex or pre-sex arousal play....

But here's another side of the coin...depending on the state you live in....if you were the business owner and that situation erupted and she or the baby was killed or injured....you would be in a world of hurt...and charged with culpable negligence which sets you up for a lawsuit.

Man, there are times when you gotta do what you gotta do. No-one says you have to jump in and kick the guys butt, its about stopping the violence then and there.
  • Jacob RobHom 2012/05/24 15:21:27
    Jacob
O now you change the sinario. This guy was no store owner. Plus a true sm relationship is not kinky play but I'm not goin to explain it. Lastly it is brown nosing because your putting your nose in someone else business. Also in the real sinario he was only an employee so in his situation I wouldn't have done it because of said rules and because I am not being paid to do it. Id call someone that gets paid to do so the cops! I would never be in that sinario because I would never work were I had to deal with that many people. I'm a trucker.
  • Andy Jacob 2012/05/24 15:23:59

You are really moving this situation to a S&M act?? That is whacked!! She was pregnant...and that should not matter... and getting beat up in the store. That is the reality...STOP AND HELP HER!!

I'm just saying you never know! Also if everyone readys my fist post. HUMANLY HE DID THE RIGHT THING! Job wise he didn't. Damn people are idiots!
  • RobHom Jacob 2012/05/25 00:41:00
    RobHom
No actual need to change the scenario...I gave you a hypothetical situation. It would not matter if he was an employee or the man in the street..just walking down the street.

Putting my nose in someone else's business? Not really....any damn fool that beats a woman in a public place is inviting intervention from anyone in the immediate vicinity.

Yep, call the cops when seconds count...they are only minutes away.

It has nothing to do with being paid to do it....its about doing whats RIGHT!

You go into truckstops...like Flying J's, TA's Petro's and even some Love's are fair sized...if a guy is beating a pregnant woman in a truckstop restaurant, are you just going to keep eating or back him down?

By the way...just retired after 18 yrs...yankin' a hazmat tanker all over North America.... CDL-A endorsed XT

You are entitled to your opinion, as am I...and I think Safeway is doing nothing more than covering their ass....

I wonder what one of their exec's would say to their employees if their pregnant wife, daughter, aunt, sister, or niece got beat up and the employees all said.... Hey dude, we didn't get involved, cuz like the employee handbook says no way man, and you fired that other dude who helped that pregnant lady....and I need this crappy job!
