SodaHead Celebrates Green Week

Question US

Did Bush forget which holiday it was today?

Craig September 03, 2007 21:30:33

Today is Labor Day. Instead of spending it with American workers, who might ask him the tough question of why their median income is down from when he took office, Bush did a photo op in Iraq. What's the story?

I think the President going to Iraq was the right place for the Commander in Chief to be on Labor Day. Those Troops deserve congratulations for their sacrifices and recent success in stabilizing the province of Anbar. So little positive news comes for our heros so it was good seeing them celebrate and receive praise. God bless them all.

Bush is confused, but that's just Bush.

    Bush is a total moron.

Actually, he doesn't care much for those who are serving either!

You left out "ALL of the above!"

Why would anyone find fault with our President going to visit our military members? It is about time he visited these kids. I am a part of the working labor force here in the states and I feel that our President was at the right place at the right time. Our military kids need to see that if it is alright for them to be in Iraq-then their commander in chief certainly can join them.

Misty, thanks for your comment. I guess the fault I find is with timing. The military men and women are working harder than anyone else right now. I don't think they consider themselves part of the labor force, though.

I wish he would have visited more than 3 times in 4 years, but couldn't he have picked, say, the day before or after Labor Day for it? Or, hell, what if he stayed for, say two days?

The fact that he disappears from the labor frontline, to which he's done much damage, just seems like an insulting way to demean labor even more. He's essentially saying, "You guys don't matter, and stop thinking about yourselves during a time of war." That was OK in WWII, not so much now, when Bush will make sure we're at war forever.

When he gets his chickenhawk butt out of the safety bubble and joins them out where the bullets are flying and the bombs are exploding, then I'll be impressed. Not before.

Bush is trying to avoid laborers by leaving.

Thanks to all for your comments. I'm still hesitant to praise Bush for his trip there. I'm sure the troops would rather have body armor than a couple hours with Bush. I think he should spend more time there with the troops in general, back up his "support the troops" rhetoric with actions and strategies, but that may be asking too much.

Laborers in this country are among the most overlooked group, and even though it would just be symbolic for him to meet with them, it's purely antagonistic to choose NOT to meet with them on this holiday.

He spent the day with the Americans who are working the hardest. But I guess some people will attempt to use any opportunity to bash Bush...

I don't have a problem with where the President spent his Labor Day...these men put their lives on the line for all of us 24 hours a day!! I finally agree with the President on something!!

It's true they put their lives on the line every day. What's tragic is that they aren't doing it "for us." They're doing it for a pack of lies and a lousy, mistaken strategy based on ego, stubbornness and deceit. It's hard to understand why, when the guy who caused this fiasco comes grinning around for photo ops, they don't throw him out on his backside.

    Undecided

Well, far be it from me to say anything good about this guy, but I don't see a problem with him going there. These guys are LABORING under far worse conditions than any of us will ever know, unless we've been there. Of course, if he has a conscience, he knows they're only there because of him.

You also have to remember that labor, and people who labor for a living, are definitely NOT part of his base. By his own words it's The HAVES and the HAVE-MORES.

It appears that if you use the word Bush with anything even slightly negative that there are those among us who downrave rather than making a rational, cohesive statement. I upraved you to make up for one of the downraves. If they thought your statement was wrong or misguided, they should have told us why.
