If only Sean Parker had been around in the 1840s... We know what you're thinking, but hold off on the eye rolls for just a second. Blogger Nate St. Pierre dug up an 1845 patent by a 36-year-old Abraham Lincoln outlining what would have been roughly the equivalent of a social network. Fortunately for Mr. Zuckerberg, the U.S. Patent Office denied his idea, but the evidence is apparently there in black and off-white. Unfortunately, Nate wasn't permitted to take a picture, so we'll have to take his word for it.

According to Nate, the patent request suggested establishing a "centrally located Gazette" for every town that gave "every Man" his own page that could be could be updated "at any time deemed Fit or Necessary." His page would detail family, employment, and any "various endeavors" he wanted to share with the community. Not only that, but he could decide who was allowed to view his page by informing an overseer -- a kind of primative privacy measure. Sounds like a certain book of faces we know... What do you think? Did Abraham Lincoln invent Facebook?

Zuckerberg/facebook wasn't even the first. they just ended up sucking enough government c*ck that they got advantages and were able to take over and be #1. they were nobody when myspace was raging. and anyway, Zuckerberg is the one who should be sued, because he stole it from the people who paid him to do the project. look it up.

I find it amusing how there are comments about computers being around in the 1800's... That obviously means that no one was able to think up the concept of social networking... And that one comment that labeled us as "doomed" for believing that great ideas existed before the internet/computers. Shame on us all.

But then again knowing the mindset of some of the Obama fans, and the Paul fans, I would say anything is possible....
Hell Obama supporters feel he is the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Paulistonians fell that Paul is the answer to a perfect Utopia....
Seeing there are 298 votes that feel Abe Lincoln lived or lives in the 21st century this is going to be interesting for me comment on....

You obviously didn't understand the question. It was not asking in what century Lincoln lived. It was asking if, from the evidence given, he created the concept by which facebook follows. Maybe if you got off your political soapbox for two seconds, you'd have the time to actually read and understand the question before answering. =]
