Mary Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has married her longtime partner Heather Poe.

The openly gay couple tied the knot in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

"Very happy to announce that as of this morning, Heather and I are legally married (at least in DC), 20 years to the day after our first date," Cheney reportedly told friends on Facebook.

The District of Columbia and six states -- Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont -- have legalized same-sex marriage.

“Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized,” the former Republican vice president and his wife, Lynne, said in a statement provided to The Daily Caller. “Mary and Heather and their children are very important and much loved members of our family and we wish them every happiness.”

Dick Cheney has long championed gay marriage. He reportedly reached out to Maryland’s GOP legislators in February to urge their support for a marriage equality bill in that state.

Mary Cheney, 43, is the younger of the former vice president's two daughters. She and Poe live in Virginia with their two children.

I am not bitter, where did you get that from? I am agreeing with you, as a true conservative christian and I do not partake of anything like that butter sex stuff.
BTW- I can safely say that the domestic ideal you describe about one of your parents being a sucker of penises and the other enjoying anal intercourse is a lot more realistic than you having any friends to discuss anything with.
One more thing if you do not know what a true conservative christian is what hope is there for the world

Also I did mean to say why did you say those hurtful things about dear ole Pappy.The man was a hero and a true legend,If it was not for him the bar owners would not be wealthy people, he helped many young girls who needed money, he would often give generously to girls who could not even afford to wear warm clothing, many had nothing to wear and to these he was very,very kind.He showed me not to listen and to judge as I see fit, because I am a true conservative Christian.

What,me needing help, I have read what you have to say and I cannot agree with most of it, when I answer your invective with reasoned and balanced prose,what do you do, suggest that in some way I am ill.Well let me tell you something I am a true conservative christian not a crypto-socialist pretending to hate lesbians and homos.You say that your problems is with them not having defined tradition gender specific roles,ie which one is the Mater and which is the Pater,you describe these roles in a colorful way, but reading between the lines it seems to me that you are envious of those people,are you a repressed person?Do you express your sexuality as you would wish?

I agree, I am the mother of 2 sons..........there is NO way I could have raised these 2 hellions on my own,. They had a strong father who was able to keep them in line. They are now grown, successful and have families of their own...I couldnt have done it on my own, Sons need a father, thats why there are so many f****ed up people out there filling the jails.

I have no real argument against (support the rights conferred by) civil ceremonies, but the pictures I have seen show a man with a cleric's collar standing behind Heather Poe. I have done some searching and found no details of the ceremony.

I also saw that, it turns out that he is not a priest but a victim of a terrible accident.He suffered having his head turned back to front so now he has to wear his shirts back to front to fit his body,but it make it look like he is dressed like a priest.

It is my opinion that I could care less about ANYBODY'S wedding, least of all of the ones somehow becoming 'news'; don't care if they're straight or gay, it doesn't belong in the papers or on TV. Can we please get this practice stopped? While we are at it, leave the sportscasting to the ESPN and like channels. No more celebrity $hit either.

This is why I don't subscribe to or watch the 'news' anymore: it's ALL bull$hit people!
