Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night."

So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?"

So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?"

So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"

So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back."

So they laid-off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY..... during the Carter Administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line is, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency....the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready??

It was very simple... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???
AND NOW IT'S 2011 -- 34 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

(THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY,

"WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?")

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

And NOW then they have created a GREEN ENERGY Department !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama must have done it through executive order.

Our federal government has NO peer in efficiency when it comes to spending money.

True about oil R & D as well as pricing and allocation. But the DOE also monitors civilian and military use of nuclear energy. That is a constant because our nuclear plants are aging. I certainly would not live near one. There has been discussion in the past about turning nuclear supervision over to the Navy... but the Navy basically said, " Hell NO !". because the Navy wants nothing to do with the complexity of nuclear waste.

Ron Paul spoke of closing the DOE, but when asked about nuclear supervision , he ignored the question by saying those duties would be 'dispersed'.

No opinion about a green department because there is so little info about that. But it seems that would fit under the DOE because it also monitors energy needs within environments and our carbon footprint. It should function far better than it does. Consider that our foreign neighbors to the north, east, south and west are more strategic. They immediately see the value of diverting their waste stream into diesel fuel instead of going to the some over-filling garbage dump. For years , the DOE has offered grants to industries to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and to develop alternate means of meeting their energy needs. That effort has been almost nonexistent by American industries. They remain disinterested.

It may be, however at this point in time, it has been a bottomless waste.

Are you proud of the wasted dollars spent by Obama?

Shouldn't the private sector be in charge?

Do you agree spending your tax dollars the way Obama has?

Maybe the Citizens of the United States should decide that? We already have an agency that does Environmental Impact Studies!

Everyone is corrupt, no matter who you vote in, they will be paid off by lobbyists.

What is voting going to do, with the creation of superpacs, your voice is gone. No matter who you put in any office, they will only serve thier own self intrests. You really want to vote, you want your voice to be really heard. Start growing and raising most of your food, buy the rest at farmers markets. Buy or build some solar panels and wind turbines, and generate your own electricity locally. Travel less, don't buy anything from china or elsewhere. Get with your neighbors and community and start your own system d economy. Only when you start messing with thier money will the politicians really start to listen to you. Until then they are just pandering to you, and serving the lobbyists. I know these words are falling on deaf ears, but you people need to realize that democracy is dead, you have no choices, and no one in any postion of power government, private sector, or religious authority gives a damn about you or your family or your nieghbors. So if you really are pissed off, then get off your ass and do something about it. I'll see ya on the other side :)

Great...more bureaucrats. Obama's Green Initiative has been a dismal failure. But that won't stop him from throwing away billions of tax payer dollars.
