"In a press conference Thursday, the House Republican leadership spoke candidly about being kept out of the House-Senate conference on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid so-called “economic stimulus” bill. They confirmed they had not yet seen the text of the bill as of 4 p.m.

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he was unsure how many Democrats would vote with Republicans again on this bill but that he thought Republicans “may get a few” Democrats to side with them. The fact that the Demos have now broken their promise to have the public able to see the bill for 48 hours may drive more Dems into the Republican camp.

“[I] don’t know, ‘cause they haven’t seen the bill either,” Boehner said.

“The American people have a right to know what’s in this bill,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind) told HUMAN EVENTS after the press conference. “Every member of Congress -- Republicans and Democrats -- voted to post this bill on the internet for 48 hours, 48 hours ago. We’ll see if the Democrats keep their word.”

Actually -- as of 5:15 pm, the Democrats had broken their word. The stimulus bill -- which we still haven’t seen -- will be released late tonight and will be brought up on the House floor at 9 am tomorrow.

The following statement was released by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer at 4:57 p.m.:

"The House is scheduled to meet at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow and is expected to proceed directly to consideration of the American Recovery and Reinvestment conference report. The conference report text will be filed this evening, giving members enough time to review the conference report before voting on it tomorrow afternoon."

Meanwhile, at an earlier presser Thursday, Pelosi -- while talking about legislation regarding school construction funds -- said it was vital to see the language of a bill before making decisions. ReadtheStimulus.org had the following quote:

“With all of this you have to see the language. You said this --- I said that --- I understood it to be this way --- you know, we wanted to see it in writing and when we did that then we were able to go forward."

"Around here language means a lot. Words weigh a ton and one person's understanding of a spoken description might vary from another's. We wanted to see it. And not only just I had to see it, I had to show it to my colleagues and my caucus. We wanted to take all the time that was necessary to make sure it was right."

Congressional members are also exchanging barbs via the popular social network Twitter. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) twittered, "Don't know when we're going to vote. Will the no votes delay vote just because they can? Speed is important. They know that."

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) twittered back, “Those in favor of speed over commonsense may just be afraid of letting the People know what they are ramming through.”"

Typical politicians, it happens on either side of the fence but never anything with this sort of price tag. It is why we have 26 states currently working on reclaiming sovereignty from the Federal Government.

different wording same outcome. If they were unable to comply then the vote should have been pushed back to allow ample time to read the revised text.

sorry to butt in but isn't it important for those elected officials to read what was added to the bill before voting on it? It was promised that everyone would have 48 hours to veiw the revised bill so that they could properly vote on it.

As I keep saying, it is sad but true that Congressmen and Senators frequently don't read every word of a bill before voting on it, particularly when it is something being passed with a deadline in mind. They often rely on summaries from their legislative aides. If you don't realize that, then you don't really understand how Congress (not to mention many state legislatures) function. They aren't voting in ignorance if they have adequate summaries.

I understand deadlines, I understand the shaddy tricks of moving a deadline forward with no time to review.

For the tyrants who you call legislators who do not actualy read the bills, maybe they don't need the time to see how they are distroying our republic. There are a few good honest legislators who do read them if they have promise. Many wanted to read this bill do to the junk shoved in it. Like the Holt Gun Bill the Dems shoved in there.

This was no stimulus, just a shell to speed every dems wish list through and speed up the process of socialism. I say hold the traitors accountable for breaking house rules. Hold them accountable for breaking this rule, because in all actuality it was a rule that was broken.

Sorry, but I don't think virtually every Congresscritter can be called a tyrant. You just don't approve of the outcome, and so are grasping at ways to say that in other ways -- to try and make the vote seem improper.

It is a stimulus and time will prove that out. Even many conservative economists say we have to spend our way out of a recession, and this is a very bad one which requires lots of speinding.

Well they can say what they want, I don't agree with them because they are conservative. Most so called conservatives are about as much a danger to this nation as most of the Liberals. Spending our way out causes more inflationary spending and still dosn't target the cause.

I can call them tyrants because most of them have been doing a good job at distroying our country. A lot of our problems we are in has to do with those same tyrants. The vote was improper and I find it hard to believe anyone would defend this piracy, unless they were married to the democrat party and was incapable of thinking a free thought.

This is not legislation and in the days of our founders those same tyrants would have been hung.

Now what we have to fear is a worthless barrel of pork with a little stimulus which dosn't even target the cause of it all. Hundreds of economists are now predicting hyperinflation by 2010. Refrence Germant in 32' for a good example of hyperinflation, or the approx. 50 others that were distoyed by it. It is a hard lesson by any fiat currency is not immune to hyperinflation and it comes for it sooner or later. 32 hyperinflation approx 50 distoyed lesson fiat currency immune hyperinflation

Sure I do. Let a democrat, for example stash a bunch of money in his freezer and does he resign? no!!!!, he maybe loses his committee but that's it. Let a Republican do the same thing and he'll resign for "the good of the country" That kind of crap. Dems keep their crooks in place while Repubs have to go out and find new crooks. It's just a way to keep power because the media is going to go after the next guy in a couple of days. It's a feeding frenzy for them but they just move on, it doesn't last long. Democraps only resign when the voters reject them. Sounds like a tough good way of doing things that Repubs haven't learned.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I appears as if you believe as long as Obama has a pretense of being open, everything is OK even if the results end up being the same. If he says he is going to do something then doesn't, does that make it right simply because he initially said so?
