The Catholic League launched a boycott against the sponsors of the The Daily Show
in April over a segment that featured “vagina mangers.” In the segment,
which aired on April 16, Stewart mocked Fox News for criticizing the
phrase “war on women,” even though the network promoted the phrase “war
on Christmas” for years.

“What
can women do to generate the same sense of outrage from Fox as” the
alleged war on Christmas, Stewart asked. “Perhaps they could play into
the theme. Maybe women could protect their reproductive organs from
unwanted medical intrusions with vagina mangers.”

A picture of a nude women with a nativity scene ornament between her
leg appeared beside Stewart, which Donohue described as an
“unprecedented vulgar assault on Christians.”

The Catholic League is hoping to pressure Kellog’s into pulling its sponsorship of Stewart as well.

If it offends you don't watch it.Simple as that.I feel the same way about Rush Limbaugh.Change the chanel, station ,turn off the T.V., Radio.
Censorship is like prohibition. We all know how that worked out.

If Comedy Central feels they will lose their money over his show, then canceling will be their decision.
As to advertisers pulling their ads, again it is their choice.
I never watch "The Daily Show" cause of his attacks on Christians.
That is my choice as well. This is America by the way.
That skit was very offensive to Christians, especially Catholics.

But just like The Catholic League and Delta...I evoke my American Rights and Freedom by using this AMAZING invention called a "Remote Control". Or as I like to affectionately call it a "Clicker"!

Oh look...A button that says "Channel Up"!
    CLICK!

OMG!!! There's this button that magically turns the TV OFF!!! WHOOHOO!

    CLICK!

It's sad that everyone that doesn't like something will try to get it banned when all they have to do is...Flip the channel.
I answered a fun poll about "Liver & Onions" today. Disgusting, vile dish it is, but I am not trying to keep others from eating the "Dish of Death". hahaha!

I will not stop others from watching this vile man that degrades women like Bill Maher, but no one will demand or force me to watch it.

I will always call it a clicker. When I was young we had a huge Zenith that you had to change the channel manually. Well, in 1980 when we got a cable box, the remote they gave was big. Every button you pushed actually made a clicking sound. >_<
Hence, my family just called it the clicker.

It was older than me. Family didn't get rid of that box for a long time. Cable company didn't want to upgrade for a very long time in such a Rural Ohio area. Cows and Pigs for miles!

I believe it's very justified to mock people's beliefs when those very beliefs are sustained upon a false reality that I and others are less than. I mock religion in the same way I would mock Jim crow laws, creationism, or facism.

I'm a very tolerant person, except when it comes to intolerance. I'm intolerant of intolerance, and I mock it regularly.

I don't believe that it is ok to mock Christians. Not at all. It is like mocking Jews, or Muslims. It is wrong. You are painting all christians with a hateful brush and it is not like. you. You sound like one of the RWNJ's that hate all non-Christians.

We are supposed to be better than that.

Many children believe in Santa Clause Is it ok to mock them for their stupidity?

I don't blame children for being lied to by their parents. But I would mock their parents for telling them such silly lies. It's just a good thing that children do eventually grow up to understand that Santa Claus is just a fairy tale, and as long as parents are teaching them about SC as a fairy tale then that's fine. But pushing that myth as truth is wholly deserving of ridicule.

Don't get me wrong. It's not as though I troll threads looking for people to mock. But if people put up an argument at me pushing the bible as truth, or creation science as deserving as the scientific method, then I will respond with every tool in my intellectual arsenal.

    Just an FYI:
My use of the work "mock" in this dialogue probably rings truer to "challenge". You won't see me insulting people because of what they believe, but I will challenge them on it. I think maybe you got the impression I was out to insult people because of what they believe and that's not it at all.

You supported Jon Stewarts mockery . It is bigotry. He is like Rush. Rush hates women. Jon Stewart hates Christians. Bigotry is not ok just because it is disguised as humor.

I don't draw the same distinction as you. There is a difference between what John Stewart does and what Rush does. And it's not just because it's humor. It's because it's satire. He doesn't insult just to insult. There's a message that's being conveyed underneath.

That's fine if you don't want to. But when an institution's faith is used as a justification to limit the rights and medical access of women, to me that's fair game. Personally, I thought Stewart's skit with the manger's wasn't that extreme at all. And really, the argument he was making wasn't against christianity at all, but against Fox news for claiming that using the moniker "war" in "war on women" was somehow a misapplication of what was going on in GOP politics. And he supported that argument by showing previous clips on fox of their pundits talking about the "war on christmas". So while you might be visually offended by the naked women with miniature mangers between their legs, it was not a visual directed at the christian faith. It was directed at Fox and their manufactured outrage .

I thought it was disgusting. I do not support the restriction of birthcontrol for women, but I will not ridicule christians for their beliefs. It is bigoted.

And I give a pass for people who ridicule a doctrine or a belief when they apply satire to drive home a valuable/important point. If there's no teachable point in the skit, then there's no value in it at all, and it's just mockery for mockery's sake, which seems dumb. I only pointed out the distinction in my last post to juxtapose what Stewart does with what people like Limbaugh do. Stewart is driving a point across, and it isn't to insult christians. It's to show how the hypocrisy of fox news pundits and anti-women conservatives use their double-standard rhetoric to hide the real damage being done to people in our country in discriminatory ways. Give me one example where Rush employs this type of satire to drive a moral point home like this. I don't think you'll find one. Rush employs his bigotry only to instill fear and hate among his listeners.

Jon did not attack women. He exposed the right wing's attacks on women. So in typical RW fashion, they accuse him of doing exactly what they are doing. If Delta actually listens to the BS drivel of the Catholic League, then I am happy to give my business to their competitors.

How does it offend Christians? He was making a point that the very same people who justify forcibly raping women with medical equipment under the guise of religious values are disguising their misogyny as religion. That they use religion as a shield to protect themselves from any criticism. And that the only way a woman can retain her dignity as a human being is to use the same defense of religious values. If anything he is defending the spirit of Christianity from those who would exploit it to their own ends.

The Catholic league represents everything that is wrong with Christianity. The forced imposition of morality without the reasoned understanding, the Cult of Objectivism and Ayn Rand, and the skewed priorities of the religious right. I used to consider myself a Christian, but upon seeing the monstrosity it has become, I have realized it is foreign from the values of compassion, mercy, forgiveness, charity, and love.

When pastors, priest, and popes perform black sacraments and make mockeries of the teachings of Jesus and still call it Christianity, what does it mean when one refers to themselves as a Christian without doubt about the church?
