Declaration of Independence gives you the right to overthrow your government

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the
same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism,
it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and
to provide new Guards for their future security." - Declaration of Independence, JULY 4, 1776

While it may be true our president did win by popular vote a lot of Americans are ignorant or don't care enough to really do any research. However the Declaration states we have the right to overthrow the government in such instances were they are abusing the power we the people entitle them to have. While it is true it may seem like our government is bending us over we should look deeper into the situation. Remember in school when your class had to agree on one thing and how hard it was to reach an agreement? Well now imagine multiplying that by three, four, or how many ever times, Americans are so quick to blame the president even though he can't act alone he has to go through congress to get anything done. So if you don't like the way things are get off your ass and get more involved in your local politics and actually get someone into office who will do what needs to be done for the better of the people and not for the better of his/her wallet.

I guess I don't understand why so many alleged patriots don't believe that a fairly elected president has the right to serve his term. It's in the constitution, and the president was elected by a majority -- not just in the electoral college. Do they only think it's constitutional if their guy wins?

Why do you always ask that? I am just trying to understand what you think is so different about this administration than the last one. I mean, you would go to war rather than wait for the next election? Seriously? It isn't likely that democrats will retain the same level of power in the senate or the house.

The beauty of the American system is that the president steps down when he is voted out. It's something no one could believe when Washington did it, and what makes us so much different and more privileged than so many other countries today. Why do you think our system isn't good enough for you?

Don't you respect the US electoral system? The constitution? The army? What is it exactly that you hate about the USA?

You are suggesting forcibly removing the US government from power. I am asking what you don't like about it.

I don't know what you are talking about with the electoral system. In the last presidential election, the same person won both the popular and the electoral vote. I don't know anyone on either side of the aisle that "hates the constitution, " and I have no evidence that anyone hates the military. In fact, the military in the last election donated to the Obama campaign in a larger percentage than ever donated to democratic candidates before, and the percentage of democrats (if you are counting them as progressives) in the military is increasing. You will have to back up these statements somewhat if you want people (or at least me) to understand what you are talking about.

That's right. Unless we won we would all be hung or shot for treason. History is written by the winners
