    wow. that's all. just wow.
when I heard about all the shenanigans they had to pull off perfectly in order to get this thing onto the surface of Mars - - - well, their success is just downright AMAZING.

getting it there in one piece is astounding. the fact that the cameras WORK is even more so.

Has that hap[pened now...... All those etch a sketches and the broadcasts...... I'm of the opinion this is an Obama political thing. We have no evidence anything actually happened. Ibama sounded all lovey Dovey lasst night about America etc. I could'a PUKED at what he said after noting what shape the Constitution is in..... so don't put your dreams in a Marxist Basket............... like is usual It's all a LIE

Sorry you feel that way. I watched the landing on TV last night, 1:32am, and I believe it happened. We should start getting more pictures and information very soon. I think it will give us a wealth of knowledge about Mars and whether is has, or ever had, life on it.

He didn't do that on his own. The federal government provided the infrastructure and the technological know-how for private companies to build shuttles that could carry him to Mars to allow him to bury his tax returns...

Can someone please explain to me the practically absent coverage of this event?

Well, for one thing, it was televised live at 1:30am EST today. I stayed up to see it and I've been following it since.
I think it also got bumped by the latest massacre of innocent civilians by an insane person with an automatic weapon.
And of course the Olympic coverage.
I guess they couldn't compete with the other news stories. Also, Mars rotated shortly after the landing and probably blocked our transmissions for a while. But it has been on quite a bit on national news and even local news has been covering it. pictures from Mars pictures from Mars Curiosity pictures from Mars Curiosity

YOU CAN SEE CURIOSITY'S WHEEL IN THE LAST PICTURE.

This whole thing is just amazing. NASA has parked a rover the size of a Volkswagen Beetle on Mars. And by "parked" I mean, lowered it onto the planet with a fricking robotic sky-crane dropship. That's just absolutely incredible! I can't wait to hear more details about this mission.
