In case you haven’t noticed, I am a gun nut. There is no political issue out there more important to me than our right to keep and bear arms. I hope the rest of you are as willing to fight and die to preserve this right for our children. If you are pro gun, thanks. If not, please let me put some things in perspective for you.
Our founding fathers came from an oppressive place where taxes were a fraction of what we have here in America today. They saw fit to make the 2nd Amendment as follows “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
The following are things we like a lot, and are privileges, however:
They did not guarantee the right of the people to have a computer or internet connection.
They did not give us the right to three meals per day.
We do not have a right to 200 channels of TV piped into our house.
We do not have a right to drive a car.
We don’t have the right to a warm, dry place to sleep at night.
We do not even have the right to sleep at night.
We have no right to an IPOD.
We are not guaranteed the right to wear sox, or shoes for that matter.
Clean underpants are not a right guaranteed by our Constitution.
We do not have a right to health care or even medicine.
We were not given the right to an education.
We were not given the right to have electricity in our homes.
We do not have the right to indoor plumbing.
Beer and pizza are not among our Constitutional rights (unless you make me president).
You are not guaranteed the right to keep chickens or bear tools.
Owning a dog or cat, is not a right.
Hunting and fishing is no a constitutionally guaranteed right.
We do not have a right to watch football on a big screen TV.
Ok, I know most of these things did not exist 230 years ago, but the founders of our country foresaw the need for people to be able to defend themselves. Read this part again, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” They didn’t say musket, gun, or sword, the wide encompassing term “arms” was used for good reason. I like to repeat the words, “shall not be infringed.” What a great country we live in, let us preserve it for our children and their children!

Theunnamedone April 08, 2009 16:11:51+4We should be allowed the same technology and firepower as the government . The reason for the 2nd amendment was so the citizens could overthrow a corrupt government if it came down to it . If we are not equally armed , then we are seriously disadvantaged .
