If we're ever expected to stop making cop-doughnut jokes, well, then cops are gonna need to stop acting like bumbling Springfield Police Chief Clancy Wiggum from "The Simpsons."
And they're really, really gonna need to stop busting little kids for running illicit lemonade stands. It happens every summer, sometimes three or four times, and the latest culprits are the fuzz in Midway, Ga., who brought the hammer down on some budding grade school entrepreneurs because the tikes had failed to get the required permits and didn't have a business license to sell delicious liquid refreshment from a street corner.
The three tween girls were trying to raise enough money to take a trip to a local water park, but Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar said his officers couldn't ascertain how the lemonade was made, who made it or what was in it.
They were only one day into their adventure when the fuzz descended and if they wanted the juice to keep flowing they were told they'd have to buy a daily permit ($50) or a $180 annual one.
In the meantime, they've been reduced to doing chores around the house and doing yard work to earn a trip to the waterslide of their dreams.
Were cops right to bust this lemonade stand?

teigan 2011/07/19 20:22:06Stupid move+14And they wonder why kids are just wandering the streets getting into trouble. Everything that was fine to do when I was a kid is no longer allowed. Kids aren't even allowed in parks at night anymore, they close them. I think there's alot worse crimes out there to take up more than enough of cops time. Leave the kids alone.

How will kids ever learn to be self reliant if any effort at self help meets a political blockade?
But that is how the real world works when you become an adult.
"do you have a licence to run that lemonade stand sir?"
"I can't understand you sir, your going to have to take that pacifier out of your mouth first"
No one may carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket if it is Sunday.
Donkeys may not be kept in bathtubs.
All sex toys are banned.
It is illegal to use profanity in front of a dead body which lies in a funeral home or in a coroners office.
And those are just in Georgia.
Speed traps are fast, easy cash.
I wonder if the cops think that all donuts are made equally at all chains too?
I'd give free lemonade away to any former Midway PD donors willing to redirect those funds to my waterslide trip & whomever campaigns to replace Police Chief Morningstar.

As long as the people of this nation in general just stand by and allow government officials to tell them what they can and can't do it will continue. Government knows no limits on it's powers and will not enforce limits on it's own powers or authority.
The permitting process needs to be ended and the people should be allowed to sell or buy a product of their choice without asking a government agency for their permission to sell or buy a product. It is called a free enterprise system for a reason, the freedom to buy or sell a product without any interference from the government and we need to return to that system.
The people of this nation need to take a stand and Demand from their government employees they end of the Permitting process and a return to the free market. This is just like the Amish and other Dairy Farmers being raided by the FDA for selling Raw Milk to their customers who wish to purchase it. It is the customers choice to buy the raw unpasteurized milk and the FDA nor any other government agency have any business getting involved in this decision made by the farmers and their customers.
unless they are like slipping drugs into the drinks that is wrong an dthey should be busted for that...but not this.....
love you forever
