Conservatives Claim Roberts Upheld Obamacare Because Of ‘Cognitive Problems’ Due To Epilepsy Medication

ProudProgressive 2012/06/29 16:22:19

This one you just have to laugh at. In the wake of Chief Justice John Roberts' surprising decision to actually put the United States Constitution and the needs of the American people ahead of partisan activism by casting the majority vote to uphold the Health Care Reform Law, the Right Wing is scrambling like rats in a spotlight to come up with some reason to continue to ignore reality. So now, in typical Right Wing fashion, they're revving up the bus and preparing to throw John Roberts under it. Even though this is the man who handed the Koch Brothers the ability to buy U.S. elections, it seems Roberts has proved that no good deed goes unpunished. And given the fact that this is coming from Michael Savage, who is probably second only to Rush Limbaugh as the most misinformed bigoted America hater around, it's all the more fun to watch.

Article excerpt follows:

Conservatives Claim Roberts Upheld Obamacare Because Of ‘Cognitive Problems’ Due To Epilepsy Medication
By Steven Perlberg
Jun 29, 2012

Chief Justice John Roberts — a George W. Bush appointee — surprised many conservatives when he wrote the majority opinion upholding Obamacare’s individual mandate, but now some conservative activists are trying to link the side effects of Roberts’ epilepsy medication to his jurisprudence.

On his radio show yesterday, right-wing host Michael Savage — who has previously called autism a “phony disease” — claimed that Roberts’ epilepsy is the root cause of his “cognitive dissociation” in the Obamacare ruling:

Let’s talk about Roberts. I’m going to tell you something that you’re not going to hear anywhere else, that you must pay attention to. It’s well known that Roberts, unfortunately for him, has suffered from epileptic seizures. Therefore he has been on medication. Therefore neurologists will tell you that medication used for seizure disorders, such as epilepsy, can introduce mental slowing, forgetfulness and other cognitive problems. And if you look at Roberts’ writings you can see the cognitive dissociation in what he is saying.

Another right-wing radio host, Bryan Fischer, echoed Savage’s sentiments in a tweet citing a 2007 New York Times piece about the Chief Justice.

Bryan Fischer @BryanJFischer NYT, '07: Roberts' epilepsy meds "troubling side effects," include "mental slowing and forgetfulness." nyti.ms/LU0dgv
28 Jun 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite

In true form, the Drudge Report also linked to Savage’s comments in the wake of the ruling.

It’s remarkable that epilepsy is somehow still stigmatized significantly more than other neurological disorders. It’s even more remarkable that Savage, Fischer, and Drudge would stoop this low.

And if Judge Roberts ruled that it was unconstitutional and NOT a tax, liberals would still be whining.

Is Roberts the only judge on the supreme court ?
Seems there were five of them that chose to stab the constitution in order to promote their personal agendas. In the past one Idiot goes overseas to disparage the constitution, another planned the legal defense of Obamacare ( mutated by the judges to be a Tax law ) . Then there is a the Buffoon that thinks they should look to international law to get creative juices flowing . These five have assumed control over the other branches of government . There is no law any longer when judges substitute their personal beliefs and whims of fancy, over the law as written, the constitution and assume the mantle of defense lawyer when lawyers don't make suitable defense.

Obamacare is Unconstitutional. Obamataxcare is Constitutional. The hardest hit will be what is formerly known as the middle class. We now are the equivalent of a third world country where there are two classes; Rich and poor!

Actually, it was the New York Times. Savage's entire discussion centered on how the Times raised this as an issue back in Aug of 2007. They were, of course, setting up a call for impeachment if Roberts proved to be too conservative for their liking.

we knew this was coming why is everyone so surprise? This progressive does not trust Roberts one bit. In his opinion he was teaching/telling republicans how they can go about defeating the Bill anyways and only a handful of republican caught on.

This is only round 5 of a 12 round fight.

Not to worry, they will never repeal this bill. Once it "kicks in" they'll have even less of a chance. Now if we can just get Roberts to reverse the decision on Campaign Contributions, we well get our country back.

Well after Obama loses in November (he only has one vastly unpopular "accomplishment") and Republicans gain control of the Senate and fire little Harry and retain control of The House, Obamacare is finished.

I heard today that states were joining Scott. We'll see. You wouldn't think the feds could ignore a state either, but just ask Arizona. Obama gave the entire state of Nevada a waiver. Obama and his czars won't be there so they won't be issuing any more of them. Good riddance!

So if what you say is true, it is even more important for the country to vote
a GOP congress and POTUS in 2012. When the country realizes that 0bamacare
will not decrease costs or increase quality and access, they will do just that.
When more and more companies pay a fine and hand over the cost of health
care insurance to the employees, when more small businesses go out of
business and fewer are created, the public will wake up................

whaaa I have to pay for obamacare

The "country" is not you. That's your opinion. You know nothing about the "nuts and bolts" of the Health Care System. Come talk to me when you grow up. You seem to think, you have all the answers. The only problem with this system is that the GOP will not be able to Conservative the assets of American and then "rip" them off. Like they did with the last administration. Like I said before, grow up and get a life.

" Come talk to me when you grow up. You seem to think, you have all the answers."......"Like I said before, grow up and get a life."

Your insults don't even deserve an answer, but for other SHs who might
be reading this thread, let me say that I have been in the Health Care
Business my whole life. I worked for Hillary because I knew Health needed
to be reformed, but this ffordable Care Act does nothing to decrease
cost or improve acces and quality. In fact it will only make health care more
costly and decrease access and quality..........

This ACA takes $500 billion out of Medicare.......that will decrease reimbursements
to doctors, who already are not reimbursed adequately and fewer and fewer
doctors will take Medicare patients......... it is already difficult for seniors
to find a doctor who takes Medicare..... and the same is true for Medicaid.
But I have expressed many of these thoughts before...........
