Conservatives Claim Roberts Upheld Obamacare Because Of ‘Cognitive Problems’ Due To Epilepsy Medication

ProudProgressive 2012/06/29 16:22:19

This one you just have to laugh at. In the wake of Chief Justice John Roberts' surprising decision to actually put the United States Constitution and the needs of the American people ahead of partisan activism by casting the majority vote to uphold the Health Care Reform Law, the Right Wing is scrambling like rats in a spotlight to come up with some reason to continue to ignore reality. So now, in typical Right Wing fashion, they're revving up the bus and preparing to throw John Roberts under it. Even though this is the man who handed the Koch Brothers the ability to buy U.S. elections, it seems Roberts has proved that no good deed goes unpunished. And given the fact that this is coming from Michael Savage, who is probably second only to Rush Limbaugh as the most misinformed bigoted America hater around, it's all the more fun to watch.

Article excerpt follows:

Conservatives Claim Roberts Upheld Obamacare Because Of ‘Cognitive Problems’ Due To Epilepsy Medication
By Steven Perlberg
Jun 29, 2012

Chief Justice John Roberts — a George W. Bush appointee — surprised many conservatives when he wrote the majority opinion upholding Obamacare’s individual mandate, but now some conservative activists are trying to link the side effects of Roberts’ epilepsy medication to his jurisprudence.

On his radio show yesterday, right-wing host Michael Savage — who has previously called autism a “phony disease” — claimed that Roberts’ epilepsy is the root cause of his “cognitive dissociation” in the Obamacare ruling:

Let’s talk about Roberts. I’m going to tell you something that you’re not going to hear anywhere else, that you must pay attention to. It’s well known that Roberts, unfortunately for him, has suffered from epileptic seizures. Therefore he has been on medication. Therefore neurologists will tell you that medication used for seizure disorders, such as epilepsy, can introduce mental slowing, forgetfulness and other cognitive problems. And if you look at Roberts’ writings you can see the cognitive dissociation in what he is saying.

Another right-wing radio host, Bryan Fischer, echoed Savage’s sentiments in a tweet citing a 2007 New York Times piece about the Chief Justice.

Bryan Fischer @BryanJFischer NYT, '07: Roberts' epilepsy meds "troubling side effects," include "mental slowing and forgetfulness." nyti.ms/LU0dgv
28 Jun 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite

In true form, the Drudge Report also linked to Savage’s comments in the wake of the ruling.

It’s remarkable that epilepsy is somehow still stigmatized significantly more than other neurological disorders. It’s even more remarkable that Savage, Fischer, and Drudge would stoop this low.

There's another train of thought that makes Roberts out to have not only planned this to hurt the dems badly. But that making it a tax that had originated in the Senate will nullify the law.

It remains to be seen if his logic and tactics will bear any fruit. If not, he chose poorly by rewriting the law.

It accually did originate in the House. The Senate just change the version and the House let it go without voting on it.

Thanks Dan. But there still seems to be mixed opinions as to where it actually started.

It would be great if in fact it did originate in the Senate.

Check this out, though they provide no timeline, it still raised my eyebrows.

Sorry to say they did a trick and used a shell bill that can from the house and inserted Obamacare into it.
Unless I’m missing something, no. The bill that passed the Senate wasn’t technically a Senate bill. Reid took a bill that had already passed the House, stripped out the provisions to turn it into a “shell bill,” and then inserted the text of ObamaCare to get around this requirement. The bill that passed the Senate was H.R.3590, which initially had to do with tax breaks for military homeowners. And yes, they’ve used the “shell bill” strategy before. In fact, the conservative opinion today specifically mentioned Article I, section 7 at one point while raising no objection to Reid’s sleight of hand.

    Well yes he is!

Bulletin: Expect this sort of thing to get worse. We went through the same gamut of voting fraud during Obama's run for the money. When voters in Boulder City, Nevada went into the voting booth to cast their ballots, guess who's name was already checked on their ballot? I'll give you a clue. It wasn't Sharon Angles name. And guess what else? The voters had no intention of voting for Harry Reid. How desperate can these Demwits get?

Anything coming from a progressive is nothing more than re-arranged words to cover their lies of deception.

As far as Roberts is concerned, he just ignited a firestorm of voter's who will vote to unseat the real liar in chief, the one that said this wasn't a tax when it is more than 21 taxes in a socialist healthcare bill that we cannot afford to pay for nor is it constitutional and his name is Barack Hussein Obama. Bye Bye Bo and Mo! Better get those tax payer vacations and golf outings in while you can before we give you the final vacation.

I see the glass half full. Obama used his postition to attack the SC. played a little checkers, On the other hand Roberts, limited the commerce clause, and Obama cheared, He also said it could only pass as a tax, Has the congress passed it as a tax? A few good chess moves, Then he added, if you don't like what congress passes, Voters can voice at the ballot box. Obama care has a very high disappoval rating.

    I call it checkmate.

I do not share that. Personally, I believe and many of my other conservatives believe that Roberts was playing chess while they were only capable of checkers. The left seems to think they have won a great victory. They have won NOTHING. The SC smacked them down on their attempted expansion of the Commerce Clause and siad to the American People what the Liar in Chief won't say. It IS a Tax and inasmuch as it was passed on reconciliation in the Senate, it can be repealed with the same rules (simple majority vote). This cluster puck is STILL so unpopular with the American people, that it WILL be repealed.

In the oppinion, roberts wrote it can pass only as a tax, Obama bragged about creating the largest tax on the middle class in history. Roberts also wrote that if you dislike something voters voice at the ballot box. Obama played checkers with Roberts playing chess.

Was there ever a doubt that the Freeloader Penalty wouldn't be considered a tax? Robert's did not need to remind Americans they can change things at the ballot box. The question is, can the baggers and ultra-conservatives stir up enough votes come November to not only take the W/H but the Congress too/

Obama said, argued, and promised it was not a tax, and certainly not the largest tax in history. Just the facts, my friend. One not need be ultra conservative, nor what ever a bagger is to realize Obia lies, the economy dies. Now, of course, those that find a jack-ass to best represent thier thinking. kinda get thrills between thier legs when they see Obama read a prompter, Does a jackass represent your thinking? And do you get that special Obama thrill?

As Clinton has said of Obamas readings, "Just words." It is a tax, Obama just bragged about being the creator of the largest tax in history. Some it will give that special feeling between the legs, And some think government can run things well. and have proof, the national debt. Most will see this as not JUST WORDS, but dishonest words, Obama was a constutional law speaker, for a college, he knew the constitution, and that his no tax was an out and out lie.

Congress now needs to pass it as a tax, How many democrats will appove the new modified bill with tax instead of a penalty. How many democrats would now vote for it?

    have to say NOBAMA 2012

No, and hopefully the one that is there will find a retirement notice come November.
"And do you get that special Obama thrill?
No, never did have that mysterious tickle up the leg. But should Romney make as stupid a choice as McCain did for VP my vote will go third party again.
Unfortunately this thing short of a Congressional repeal is here to stay. As much as Dems might not want to vote on a tax. How many conservatives are willing to tell the American people that preexisting conditions can be a deciding factor or that kids after 18/21 are on their own. I have yet to see what the Republicans have to replace this most hated of Obama-nations.

those that passed Obamacare (democrats) based on democrat leaderships illogical logic of passing it to find out what is in it did so because of the way DC runs. congress and the president pass things without knowledge of what they voted for because they exempt themselves. And democrats sold exemptions from thier big contributors. unions, AARP, (notice how quickly they, AARP, presented an Obama suplimentary plan that they will make billions on. see what a few campaign dollars get you.

In so far as they soda in the drinking fountains 3rd grade class president campaign, yes Obiecare has freebees in it. I don't think giving this much power to the government over our lives is a great idea as you suggest.

Never liked the government and their growing power over our individual rights. Did not like it when a Republican Congress passed in the middle of the night the Real ID Act of 06' and do not like this massive new entitlement program know as Obamacare. Unions, Corporations and Special interest groups do what is in their interests not the peoples.
Freebies are the problem in this country. Nobody in DC or almost any level of government can say NO. The more the people get Freebies the more they want and the least likely they are to want to give them up.

The Obama Record: May's weak jobs report further confirms the president's policies are failing to help the economy. This is, indeed, the worst recovery since the Depression.

    • The share of Americans who've been out of work a long time — now at 42% of the unemployed — is the highest since the Great Depression (source: Labor Department).

    • The proportion of the civilian working-age population actually working, at 58%, is the smallest since the Carter era (Labor Department).

    • Growth in nonfarm payroll jobs since the recovery began in June 2009 is the slowest of any comparable recovery since World War II (Hoover Institution).

    • The rate of new business startups — the engine of job growth — has plunged to an all-time low of 7.87% of all businesses (Census Bureau).

    • 3 in 10 young adults can't find jobs and live with their parents, highest since the 1950s (Pew Research).

    • 54% of bachelor's degree-holders under the age of 25 are jobless or underemployed, the highest share in decades (Northeastern University).

Romney will have a massive stimulus package.

Romney understands investors which gives him the ability to use investor money rather then tax payer money to create jobs. All Romney has to do is delete Obama’s big government taxes and regulations and he will entise investors to invest and create jobs!

Romney understand Capitalism. Obama couldn’t manage a hot dog stand. Obama only understands how to buy votes with welfare programs.

Marxism doesn’t work which is why Obama only created 69 thousand jobs in May 2012 but the June report is do out by Friday.
