Since the night of President Obama’s inauguration, there’s been a concerted effort by the GOP to stall or reverse any economic recovery. They have blocked every jobs bill, refused any increase in revenue and invented non-scandal after non-scandal for the sole purpose of making the president a one-termer. We here at Addictinginfo have been ringing the alarm about this since we first went online in late 2010 and liberal commentators did so before we even existed. The “liberal” mainstream media, on the other hand, was too busy patting itself on the back for being as “fair and balanced” as Fox by blaming the instant gridlock on everyone except the GOP. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/01/03/bills-republicans-hav...

But we knew better and we’ve been waiting for the rest of the media and the Democratic Party to catch up. Slowly but surely, they have. The question is out there now: Is the GOP deliberately stalling the recovery and are they rooting for America to fail? The answer is an unequivocal, “YES!” and even some conservatives are hinting that it’s the undeniable truth. Rob Gray, a former a senior adviser to Mitt Romney during his 2003 campaign and current media strategist had this to say in an interview:

“I am buying that they’re rooting against the economy somewhat because they think that, you know, the short-term pain of, you know, the next four months is much better than having additional four years of pain under Obama. they believe that government should spend less and that they have better economic ideas then the president does. So, you know, if we have to suffer between now and November to get a better president for four years, they’re all for it.“

Well, that’s nice. Except it hasn’t been just four months, it’s been almost four years and their “rooting” has caused untold millions of Americans to suffer. Why? So the GOP has a better shot at the White House. Never mind that actual people are losing their homes, their jobs, their health and their lives; that’s not important. The little people never are. Party before country or, as Mitch McConnell said and absolutely meant, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

    They've been rooting against Obama since the day he took office. The current bunch of Republican punks are the worst I've ever seen and I go back to Eisenhower, who by the way, was a very good President! I can't think of any Republican from the past who can match the anger, extreme views and downright nastiness of today's GOP. And that includes Barry Goldwater! This group verges on evil in my book. The must be defeated.

    The economy got worse under President Obama because of the Republican economic policies that are still in place due to Republican obstruction. As far as the percentage of spending directly due to President Obama, he has shown far less of an increase in spending than any President in nearly 60 years.

    Clinton also tried to pass ObamaCare but was shut down by Congress. That and the Republican Congress contributed to our nations period of prosperity.
    I don't think we have to worry about Corporate Fascism as much as we do about transforming our nation into a Socialistic Democracy.
    Show me a nation that collapsed under Corporate Fascism and I'll show you several European countries collapsing under Socialistic Democracy.

    Friedman goes on to say: "It's because too many Americans in the center-left/center-right do not feel in their guts that Obama is leading - is offering an economic plan at the scale of the problem.... Our situation is different than four years ago; people want to know the president has a plan for getting out of this mess." In essence, Obama hasn't lead well enough to get people out of their chairs to do battle.

    Yes, Obama is still better than Romney. but this is indeed a low form of faint praise.

    What you people don't realize when you say that "Obama isn't leading", is that in order for a President to be able to get his agenda going is support from the Congress and Senate. The Right would like you to believe that President Obama is too far to the left and a Socialist, but most of his obstructed proposals have been programs that Republicans have written. Practically everything that President Obama has been able to get passed and put into action has been a rousing success - and you should be praising him for it! However, you can't place the blame entirely on the President when the Congress and Senate are filled with obstructionists with an agenda to ruin this President no matter what it costs this Country. You want action from Obama, OK, get to work supporting your Democratic nominees for Congress and Senate!

    What you say is true enough. Friedman's point is that Obama's leadership may not attract sufficient center-left/center-right voters. This is about winning the election, rather about what Obama can get through Congress. Obama's leadership has in some repects let Republicans get away with being obstructionists. To avoid letting them get away with it Obama doesn't need to get his proposals passed, but he does need to get voters, particluarly the center-left and center-right, behind what he wants to do. Friedman suggests that Obama may not be doing a good job of getting the backing of these voters. I tend to think that Friedman has a good point. I'm voting for Obama, but with less enthusiasim than the first time and my sense is that many in the center-left and center-right may be less inclined to vote for Obama this time around.

    Only because of the negativity surrounding him, and the right-wing media getting away with telling everyone he is a communist. Truth is, Obama is more to the center than Clinton was, it is only that the right has moved so far right that even Reagan would be considered a Liberal Democrat now!
