Conservative Beliefs , Liberal Beliefs, Independent beliefs We all want the same things in life. We want freedom; the chance for prosperity; few people suffering as possible; healthy children; The argument is how to achieve them?

LIBERALS – believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. It is the duty of the government to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need.Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems.
CONSERVATIVES – believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals.Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.
NOTE: The terms “left” and “right” define opposite ends of the political spectrum. In the United States, liberals are referred to as the left or left-wing and conservatives are referred to as the right or right-wing. On the U.S. political map, blue represents the Democratic Party (which generally upholds liberal principles) and red represents the Republican party (which generally upholds conservative principles).
Independent beliefs
1. Education - should be completely removed from federal control ( and NEA) and returned to local control. take it a step further and privatize schooling.
2. The national defense is one role that the feds should do.
3. Welfare is not an issue for the feds,
4. Walk softly and carry a big stick and by extension, use it when you are attacked.
5. Health care is not an issue for the feds at all. Health care happens in hospitals and doctor's offices not the hall of congress.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. - Thomas Jefferson

It is a legitimate concern for government but is at a level above the natural selfish interests of the individual. If people are free to prosper unimpeded, then they will have the means to rise above mundane concerns and perhaps help those in need.reply

Thank you for you replyreply - ☆stillthe12c☆ 2012/07/01 05:11:36Undecided: Comment as you like+2I am a conservative. Most of the Republican party is no longer Conservative. They are now trying to pretend they are. John Kennedy was more conservative than most of these people.reply

+2I don't like the "strong defense" talking point because in my experience the people that say it 9/10 are using it as code for "we should invade/bomb countries that haven't done anything to us." Otherwise the definition of "Conservative" above actually sounds more like classical liberalism.reply -

+1Where do you get bombs and invade out of my remarks? I disagreed with Bush going into Iraq. I thought that we should have gone into Afghanistan and got Bin Laden and got the hell out. Both parties are now liberal. If you want conservatives you have to look at the tea party or libertarians party.reply - burning... ☆stillt... 2012/07/01 22:13:35 (edited)
+1I didn't, I was referring to OP's description of conservatism which I've seen copy-pasted elsewhere around the internet. Personally my definition of "conservatism" is more along the lines of classical conservatism or european "new right" type ideologies or platonism or monarchism or neo-mercantilism.reply - ☆stillt... burning... 2012/07/01 23:01:06
+1So you like the Progressive Right?reply - burning... ☆stillt... 2012/07/02 01:06:53
+1I'm not sure where you're getting that I'm "progressive right" from, whatever that means (did you mean neocon?). Most of the ideas I just cited are hundreds if not thousands of years old.reply - burning... burning... 2012/07/02 01:07:25 (edited)
+2Also I don't call the left "progressive" without quotation marks, because I refuse to use their language. Calling leftism and liberalism progressive implies their ideas represent actual progress. Since I think liberalism and leftism are largely based on false or incoherent notions I refuse to let them frame the debate that way.reply - ☆stillt... burning... 2012/07/02 01:31:07
+1Progressive right is like the conservative in Europe. I do not like the term myself as a Progressive is what the communist party started calling themselves. They also use terms like forward. Which is not forward at all. I guess you could call all the Republicans in Congress Neocon now as they have rediscovered being Conservative. At least that is what they are saying.reply -
