Condoleezza Rice's name surfaced as the lead contender for Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate in the 2012 election. Top Republican insiders have split their support for the pro-choice candidate who served as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser.

But conservatives want a pro-life candidate. "It will deactivate the base,'' said Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, part of the Southern Baptist Convention. "It will turn some serious contributors and activists into just voters, and some voters into fishermen.''

The Tea Party also has concerns over Secretary Rice. Judson Phillips blasted the idea of "VP Condoleeza Rice" in this excerpt from Tea Party Nation: The social conservatives will not come out for her, like they did for Palin, because Rice is pro-abortion. Social conservatives don’t really believe Romney when he claims he is pro-life, but to add a pro-abortion VP would really sink him with the social conservatives.
Secreatry Rice also criticized the Tea Party in an October 2010 interview. Do you think staunch conservatives will accept Condoleezza Rice as a potential Republican VP pick?

Looking at your criticisms, and given that she carries herself with respect, exuding personal confidence and strength, how is it that "most blacks consider her an Uncle Tom?"

Look at the hell they gave Obama for four years. I doubt they will let this happen again. qualified or not. This country is full of double stndards especially when race is concerned.

There are no ideal candidates but I think that the president's extreme status on abortion can successfully push people to the more moderate status of Rice (I say this as a long time pro life advocate, although one that can't vote in this election). I think that at there core many Republicans want a candidate that can be taken seriously by all sides with good experience and charisma, that Ms. Rice seems to have a lot of, and although moderate she seems to be fairly middle of the road Republican in most of her dealings.

I like her, but she's not conservative enough. The pro-abortion thing is huge, and she just failed on that one. Also let's not make the mistake of going with "Candidate X" just to prove we aren't racist. Still, id take her over The Pretender any day

Too divisive to the base. Putting one squishy on abortion candidate for President? That hurts. Adding a pro-choice VP? That's a revolt.

Republicans don't have that big a problem with her stance on abortion. Hell...y'all just nominated a mormoon to run for president. That alone should have the religious right crying for the Lords help. Don't act like abortion is a dividing factor. Lord only knows how many so called conservatives actually had one themselves and now want to act so morally correct on the subject. Let's keep it real...Y'all don't want no darkies on the ticket. That's why y'all did ol boy Cain in early just to make sure it wasn't going to be him. Now Rice is the topic of VP...lol. What white man are you gonna say she sexually harrassed?

One funny thing about politicians is that they always say they dont want the job, or a variation of that sediment. However, they soon either run for or accept that position.

Well I dont think this is a case of changing their mind. Its either a psy-op or a habit of lying these people have. Like how Obama said he wasnt going to run, then he did. Or last year he said he didnt want to run for a second term, but would to it for the country, but now he says he wants to run. Hilary also pulled similar stunts.
Politicians... they always lie, then when the truth would serve them better.

but for women that legitimately change their minds... That would be my mother every 5 minutes.

Some will some won't - of course. Most fiscal and all "neo-conservatives" will embrace her. NRA should endorse pretty warmly, too. Most social conservatives will have a fit, though. No candidate is perfect, but I'd be okay with Rice.

Honestly? More okay with Rice than Romney!! Good grief, what is that guy? But neither one would have been my first choice. Today? I'd vote for Mr. Potato Head if it got rid of the Bama.

Why do we always keep falling for this crap?
Both sides are the same, it's just that Romney a non-muslim.
He wants to replace Obamacare so he can put his name on it.
There is not a dimes worth of difference between Republocrats and Demopublicans and NEITHER one has our best interests at heart.
