Concord, Mass: First Town in The Country to Ban The Sale of Bottled Water

As our friend Jean Hill fought long and strong for two years to ban the sale of plastic bottled water within her hometown, the Town Meeting attendees voted in the passing of the bylaw that supported Hill’s cause. The article below, issued by the local Concord newspaper, goes into detail about the Town Meeting’s guts and controversy. Way to go Jean!

Concord residents voted to become the first town in the country to ban the sale of single-serving PET bottled water on Wednesday night.

Notes: Antimony, which is found in PET plastic bottles, in small doses can cause dizziness and depression; in larger doses it can cause nausea, vomiting and death.

It takes 17 million barrels of oil per year to make all the plastic water bottles used in the U.S. alone. That's enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year.

The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 per year; that same amount of bottled water is about $1,400.

What will some Liberals try to dictate to us next?

That we are required to use one-ply toilet paper because two-ply uses too much paper?

I reuse & recycle all my plastic bottles so they don't end up in the landfill.

Just wait till the natural disaster that comes along and they have no bottled water, I'll bet they will change their tune after that

If conservatives weren't so keen on destroying this country, the U.S. would have the necessary resources should a natural disaster occur.

I'm not surprised another conservative lacks the vocabulary to participate in a discussion.

It's only on 'single serving bottles' and can be waived in an emergency and can still be challenged in court.

Again it the gov't trying to inject themselves int the lives of the people they serve. I'm sure there are worse thing going on in Concord than plastic water bottles.

Sounds about right, they'd probably invent a counter weighing device to ensure you didn't use too many pieces.
