During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) refused to call for stronger gun control laws in the wake of the tragic movie theater shooting in his state. After saying that a reexamination of Colorado’s gun control laws is “going to happen,” Hickenlooper told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that even if there were stronger restrictions, the alleged shooter would “have found something else” to commit the murders:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Does it make you think, at this point, that you need to take another look at Colorado’s gun laws?

HICKENLOOPER: You know, I’m sure that’s going to happen. But I look at this — this wasn’t a Colorado problem, this was a human problem, right, and how we can have such a warped individual and no one around them be aware. I worry that if we got rid of all the guns — certainly, we have so many guns in this country and we do have a lot more gun violence — but even if he didn’t have access to guns, this guy was diabolical, right? He would have found explosives, he would have found something else, some sort of poisonous gas, something to create this horror.

Hickenlooper made similar comments on CNN’s State of the Union. As ThinkProgress noted yesterday, Virginia’s Senate candidates also dodged gun control questions.

The weapon used by the alleged shooter would have been covered by the assault weapons ban that was allowed to expire in 2004. The high capacity clip used was also covered by the ban. Later during ABC’s show, former Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA) said that no citizen should have access to an assault rifle. “No one should have that kind of killing machine,” he said.

Everyone just keep your senses. The Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment so we could protect and defend ourselves from the tyrannical government which is ever present.

Bad people are going to do bad things no matter what kind of laws you try to apply to them. Take away my right to protect myself leaves me open to the bad people doing bad things to me. The Colorado Governor didn't refuse calling for stronger gun laws, he was smart enough to realize that it wouldn't matter. Just like he said, this guy was a brilliant person that would figure other ways of killing people. If you have a kids chemistry kit, you can make gun cotton which in turn you can make gun powder and then make a bomb and so on. What's next? Banning chemistry classes in school? People need to use their head instead of trying to pass meaningless laws that only punish the honest citizen.

What good will stronger gun laws do? They would only disarm the innocent citizens who need to defend and protect themselves, plus, murderers are determined to kill anyway.
    if guns are outlawed

he is right stricter gun laws wouldnt help. this guy had clamor minds boobie trapped or chemical weapons in his apartment what if he would have used those instead. how many more people would have died. you can make bomb from house hold chemicals and fertilizers and parts from a hardware store. What kills more people guns or bombs just look to isreal.

NO, the lawyers do. The lawyers SUE for more rights for criminals. the lawyers sue for plea bargains to get reduced charges and sentencings for criminals, the lawyers argue "mental disease" and get multiple delays to protect their taxpayer funded paychecks for defending these clowns.

    LAWYERs are destroying the nation.

Well I think that could play a big part in gun control, like we all say, it's not the gun, it's the human behind the gun. So maybe if we do something with this weak ass justice system, like if you kill without good cause, you die just be cause.

Yes, that's true, there's more than one way to kill people, but the topic is gun control. Now that doesn't mean take our guns away, in my opinion I think these gun shows should be regulated and strict, and maybe we should stop selling ammo over the internet. That's a form of control, is that wrong?

Go ahead and arm up. Give everybody a gun. That way you idiots can blow each others brains out every time you THINK something is going to happen. We can have a Treyvon Martin incident every five minutes then. Shoot 'em ups at the movies, in school, at work, in church, funerals. Hell, yes.......let's just start blowing each other away at the drop of a hat. Take my subway seat and I'll shoot your ass. What a great way to live.
