City of Scranton PA. is broke, so the mayor cuts every city employee salary to minimum salary, including his own. Why?, because the taxpayers don't want to pay any more taxes. Is that fair or foul?

Economics are pretty simple. You only spend what you have and, if you want to be stable, you don't spend all you have. Tax payers are having to do it with their family budgets, no reason why city govts shouldn't have to as well.

Cities are either going to have to cut salaries or employees, one of the two. Every city in the United States are going to have to get used to less employees, cause no one want to work at minimum wages. Eventually, every union contract that these cities have signed with these unions are going to have to be re-negociated.
