Christians Have Gone To War With America. Is It Time To Take The War Them ? Is It Time to END Christian Fascism ?

Rick Perlstein of the New York Times writes "Of course there are Christian fascists in America. How else to describe, say, the administrator of a faith-based drug treatment program who bound and beat a resident, then subjected her to 32 straight hours of recorded sermons?" Perlstein believes that this book, however, "is not a worthy attempt ... [Hedges] writes on this subject as a neophyte, and pads out his dispatches with ungrounded theorizing, unconvincing speculation and examples that fall far short of bearing out his thesis ... Hedges is worst when he makes the supposed imminence of mass violence the reason the rest of us should be fighting for the open society... The problem is that he can't point to any actual existing violence among the people he's reporting on"[1]

Joe Bailey of the Oregon Daily Emerald wrote that Hedges "confuses political activism with totalitarian violence. ... Like all Americans, conservative Christians have the right to pursue their political objectives through peaceful and democratic means. Which is precisely what they have done. Despite the peaceful and democratic nature of their activism, Hedges attacks conservative Christians with the nastiest of slurs, revealing a frightening ignorance. ... The old guard of the Christian Right is stuck in the culture war mentality that originated in the 1960s. When liberals like Hedges adopt a similar culture war mentality, they only fortify the divide and lend ammunition to their adversaries."[2]

Publishers Weekly wrote of the book: "As a Harvard Divinity School graduate, his investigation of the Christian Right agenda is even more alarming given its lucidity. Citing the psychology and sociology of fascism and cults, including the work of German historian Fritz Stern, Hedges draws striking parallels between 20th-century totalitarian movements and the highly organized, well-funded "dominionist movement," an influential theocratic sect within the country's hugeevangelical population. Rooted in a radical Calvinism, and wrapping its apocalyptic, vehemently militant, sexist and homophobic vision in patriotic and religious rhetoric, dominionism seeks absolute power in a Christian state. Hedges's reportage profiles both former members and true believers, evoking the particular characteristics of this American variant of fascism. His argument against what he sees as a democratic society's suicidal tolerance for intolerant movements has its own paradoxes. But this urgent book forcefully illuminates what many across the political spectrum will recognize as a serious and growing threat to the very concept and practice of an open society."[3]

Well, Jesus was a bit of an extremist himself when he was on earth. Being an extremist isn't neccessarily bad, depends on the extremity. If the world says that it's perfectly alright to just do what ever you want and no one should judge you because someone read something about "judge not lest thou be judged" in the bible and if it feels good, do it. Then, Christians stand up and correct them, saying it's okay to judge a persons actions when they go against God, but only God can judge their soul, and they get labeled as an extremist, then it's fine to be an extremist. What I think or assume you're talking about is the "god hates fags" "christians" from kansas. feel free to judge their actions all you want. Though shalt judge them. was that as clear as mud?

It is certainly time to call Christians on their allowing the faux Christians to speak for them! There are some decent Christians out there but if they continue to allow the fake ones to spread their hatred and controling attitudes then Christianity will continue to degrade into the Hell they are so afraid of!

And it was indeed predicted in Revelation 17

    << Revelation 17 >>
    New International Version 1984
    The Woman on the Beast

1One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters. 2With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”

3Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. 4The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. 5This title was written on her forehead:

    mystery
    babylon the great
    the mother of prostitutes
and of the abominations of the earth.
6I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.

When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns. 8The beast, which you saw, once was, now is...

8The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was, now is not, and yet will come.

9“This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while. 11The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

12“The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast. 14They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

15Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. 16The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God’s words are fulfilled. 18The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”

The End of False Religion is near at hand people HEAD the warning in Revelation 18

The Fall of Babylon the Great the world wide organization of false religions.

1After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. 2With a mighty voice he shouted:

“Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
She has become a home for demons
and a haunt for every evila spirit,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.
3For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”
4Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

“Come out of her, my people,
so that you will not share in her sins,
    so that you will not receive any of her plagues;
5for her sins are piled up to heaven,
and God has remembered her crimes."

IT IS THE TIME OF THE END FOR FALSE RELIGION.

What you don't understand is this is exactly the image many radical Christian groups portray to the people who watch them. I believe in God, but many of today's Christians do more harm to religion than any thing else could. They have been so vigorously forcing themselves into our politics that it has divided the country even more.

I watch what many of the Cristian-right supports in the Republican/Conservative, and T-Booger party, that I have to ask myself who the hell are these people, and if they believe in God, how could they support and believe in this GOP crap?

Religion is your own personal belief system and should be in the way you accept and treat others, and stay out of politics. You can't hate Obama because of his skin color and then profess to be a Christian. That is being a hypocrite. Some people put on their religious robes for show and tell, and then let their real monsters out. Going to church does not make you anymore a Christian than standing in your garage makes you a car.

I'm Christian; I voted for Obama, and will do it again this fall; I believe in live and let live. I hope we can finally see the day that gays are allowed to marry and live their lives like all normal people. I'm against abortion. (Doesn't really fall into the category of live and let live.) My church is a Catholic Church that basically supports what i just said. I've been a Christian all of my life. I don't carry signs or call people names. And I am the average Christian. RWNJ'S are not an example of Christianity, they are an example of extremism.

There was no undecided. I'm a christian I don't think I'm fascist. I believe that everyone has the right to practice or not practice any religion. I try not to force my opinions on other people just as I don't want them to do to me. I support gay marriage and believe that unless they are hurting people by being gay they should have the same rights as straight people end of story. And I hate that actions committed by a few extremists in a grou automatically make people assume that everyone in that group is like that. It's called stereotyping people! We are all individual people, we all find our own way to worship God. And just because these people tried to force christianity on a person doesn't mean that every christian is out to get non-christians.

I applaud you for that statement. I know not all of any group are the same. Unfortunately the ones you described as extreme are the vocal ones. They are the one who put down gays and put me down because they say this is a christian country implying I am a second class citizen because I am not christian nor do I believe in any god.

I agree we should all be equal regardless of religion or sexual orientation or any other difference.

That's right. Whatever happened to freedom of religion? Or...no religion. I don't care that you don't believe in God....well it doesn't bother me. People believe what they feel is right and I applaud you for choosing to stand for what you believe instead of letting them bully you into believing in God. To me forcing belief is not true Christianity

Thank you. How did you get it right when so many have it wrong? And so you too. Just as you believing does not affect me at all, neither does my not affect anyone else. Religion is a personal choice. Would it be easier for me to just go along with everyone else? Of course, but then I would not be me.

Oh and trying to force someone to believe usually has the opposite effect. At least on me.

    Live long and prosper.

Thank you. And I don't have all the answers, I just try to accept people for who they are. I know I will not like everyone and not everyone will like me but I try anyway. I don't like it when people purposefully infringe on the rights of others. I know that everyone has their problems and reasons for being who they are. I think that I think differently from other people is because well..my teacher says that part of me is a little kid and the other part is an old soul.
