Child Porn, Coke Smuggling: 318 DHS Employees Arrested in 2011: Has America Been Corrupted?

America's Department of Homeland Defense has grown under President Obama to over 225,000 employees. The massive size and recruiting policies of the department has allowed the hiring of "bad apples" who commit crimes while working for the largest law enforcement agency in America.

The DHS issued a report that details the crimes, investigations and statistics that should alarm American citizens -- and the world as well. If American corruption continues, it will weaken the exceptionalism that America took over 230 years to earn.

OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL
Department of Homeland Security
Executive Summary: During the period January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2011, we opened 1,389 allegations for investigation, resulting in issuance of 845 Reports of Investigation, accounting for 318 arrests and 260 convictions. These investigations also led to fines, restitution, recoveries, and administrative cost savings of more than $45 million.

Charles Edwards, the acting inspector general for DHS, reported the following to Congress: "Border corruption may take the form of cash bribes, sexual favors, and other gratuities in return for allowing contraband or undocumented aliens through primary inspection lanes or even protecting and escorting border crossings; leaking sensitive law enforcement information to persons under investigation and selling law enforcement intelligence to smugglers; and providing needed documents such as immigration papers."

President Obama's healthcare legislation ("Affordable Care Act" aka "Obamacare") requires the hiring of as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents and other employees "to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans." Government continues to grow as the private sector shrinks. Government employees succumb to the same human flaws as private employees, so one can expect an increase in corruption as government gets bigger.

WIRED.COM reports:
Border Patrol agents smuggling weed and coke. Immigration agents forging documents and robbing drug dealers. TSA employees caught with child porn. Those are just a few of the crimes perpetrated by Department of Homeland Security employees in just the past year.
caught child porn crimes perpetrated department homeland security employees year

Not a recent occurrence, though...I'd say at least 100 years of US corruption being quite rampant, if not longer...quite the hypocrites in a plethora of ways, IMHO...

    Begs the question ..
is DHS Hiring directly from the Sex Predatory Registry?
(or right there at the prison doors when they are paroled?)

    Good grief ..
this is not only ALARMING ..
it is SAD and SICKENING ..
shows clearly the Corruption/CRIMINAL Activity (and Organized Criminal Activity) endemic within the Department itself ..

"Government employees succumb to the same human flaws as private employees, so one can expect an increase in corruption as government gets bigger."

The main argument, then, is the larger a particular workforce is, as long as it involves people...you'll see more corruption in it.

Ironically, this defeats an argument that we should increase the private sector, potentially. Considering that government employees are at least legally and practically subject to significant responsibility to all citizens...private employees really aren't.

So, you want to transfer the corruption to the private sector...where the U.S. citizen can't hold it responsible (you know, unless it's publicly traded and we buy shares)?

When I was in school, around the high-school years, a councillor was appointed because I am extremely ADD. To get to the point, she was appointed to the school by DHS, and was coming on to me very hard, including offers of monwy within the multiple thousands range. I was into music gear at the time, and my family owned a business, allowing me to not only aquire, but work for my gear while I schooled. She was arrested, and decommissioned as a result of coming on to the wrong person, in front of the school PRINCIPAL. Now, I am not above her, she was very attractive, however, her professional standing should have taken precedent over her personal and risk standards. She got what she deserved, and now, sadly, is gainfully employed at a college. I am all for reform, but I feel like she will do this again.

While I love my country, I realized a long time ago, that the people living in it, and even a fair few of those running it, are just as corrupt, if not more so, as people outside the US. We hope we're better, many of us think we're better, but we are just the same as everyone else sharing our planet.

This is a very interesting issue and I am going to include some historical background in this comment. It was the Banksters (Illuminati) that started WWI, specifically to rid Europe of all monarchs. Henry Ford correctly stated that it was the bankers that started WWI, in his 1914 newsletter. Why did the Banksters want to get rid of the monarchs? Simple, any democracy or communistic government are far easier to corrupt than one stubborn
monarch, because there are more people to corrupt and more proliferic when more and more agencies are added, for which most of the United States Government is comprised of unconstitutional agencies, such as the FBI, FDA, IRS, FCC, Homeland (in) Security, which is security for our socialistic government than for its citizens and many others that have no place under what used to be a "republic", until 1871. Corruption happens on many levels and even more incidious, is the firing of whisle blowers. Even when the Chinese completed the "Great Wall", it soon became a moot project when the guards were bribed to let the enemy in.

what do you mean by the banskters? Illuminiti they are now joined at the hips with free masonry now too right? They are employed in governments , business' and so on.
This is why corruption has begun..and won't end unti people educate themselves on what they thought was gone l00's of years ago!

Who acts like Jesus, people that arrest people or people that don't arrest people? This should be a simple question.

We have too many laws and the public employees feel entitled. It forces people to cut corners and for law enforcement to pick/choose when and how they enforce the law.

Low level government employees have always had too much power with not enough oversight to keep them in line.

Our branches of government were built on a system of checks and balances. As you dwindle down to low level employees, such as the ones mentioned in the above article and other civil protectors, like cops (huge one here), the sheer number of employees to oversee is too large.

They know of the gross lack of oversight on their actions, which does nothing but encourage them to push the envelope further and further to see, exactly, how much they can get away with.

The Patriot Act and Homeland Security were started by who? Who took away a multitude of your rights and privacy as an American citizen. Who was it did you forget? Or are you still blaming the wrong person for this?

Every president uses the power that is already in existence to extend the influence of the Executive branch during his (perhaps sometime soon, 'her') term.

Blaming Obama for the unconstitutional legislation Bush got passed is akin to blaming failing bank CEOs for requesting government bailout funds they did not deserve because they knew they'd get them.

Is Obama right to be extending this power? NO. Can you actually blame him for using it? Also, No.
