Chicago Police Chief: Second Amendment Is A Danger To Public Safety

By: Dana Loesch (Diary) | February 17th, 2013 at 07:21 PM | 40

Chicago’s Chief of Police, who previously blamed ”government-sponsored racism” and Sarah Palin for Chicago’s gun violence, declared that the law-ful exercise of the Second Amendment was a threat to public safety. From the Illinois State Rifle Association:

Chicago’s embattled police superintendent dug himself deeper into a pit of controversy today by claiming that lawful firearm owners are agents of political corruption. Appearing on a Chicago Sunday morning talk show, superintendent Garry McCarthy expressed his conviction that firearm owners who lobby their elected representatives or who donate money to political campaigns are engaged in corruption that endangers public safety. McCarthy went on to express his belief that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting our Constitution.

After totally dismissing the citizen’s right to redress grievances, McCarthy trained his constitutional wisdom on the 2nd Amendment. Despite recent court decisions to the contrary, McCarthy opined that the 2ndAmendment limits citizens to owning smooth-bore muskets. McCarthy went on to say that he believes that the 2nd Amendment supports mandatory liability insurance for firearm owners and the mandatory application of GPS tracking devices to civilian owned firearms.

“ Garry McCarthy ’s understanding of our Constitution barely qualifies him as a meter maid, never mind the chief of the nation’s third largest police department,” commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson . “What on earth would possess McCarthy to assert that constitutional rights should be meted out based on public opinion polls? Let’s not forget that public opinion polls once opposed a woman’s right to vote while it would be a safe bet that, at one time, polls would have shown lynching as an acceptable form of justice. It has been said that our Constitution exists to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. McCarthy’s view of our Constitution is dangerous and unbecoming of a civil servant.”

“McCarthy needs to understand that the lawful firearm owners of this state will continue to lobby their representatives and continue to support candidates who represent their interests,” continued Pearson. “If Garry McCarthy doesn’t like that, well that’s just too bad. If McCarthy is so interested in influence peddling, he should pop into some of the gin mills ringing the Illinois Capitol and count the ruddy red noses of taxpayer-funded lobbyists for the City of Chicago.”

Thats how it was in D.C. in the 80's when they banned all firearms. The crime rate significantly went up.It was so dangerous, you couldn't even look at people w/o getting shot and killed. in broad daylight, right in front of the Police. Who would run before he even take the risk of doing anything.about it. You digg what I'm saying? It ain't no where near like that now. It took a significant drop in murder rates. I think it went down from about 270 a yr. to 90 a yr. The lowest in history. These youngens today, are much more approachable and conversational Except for the fact that our youth are getting off to a slow start, by not having any jobs. That are being given to immigrants, for instance fast foods, that use to belong to teenagers back in the days. And w/o skill, now they have to seek a more advanced job. That is not likely for them to get, as a teenager w/o skill. And I have been seeing a strong spike in high school murders lately, because now they are choosing to be thugs, Since all their qualified jobs are now all being given to illegal immigrants.
But thats Obamarama for you He don't care. Thats how he feels about it. He wasn't like this the first four years, he played a polite role. Now he wants to go out as a loser. Where ppl won't even want to remember his face. And throw away all of his portraits that they have in their houses.

Police sates tend to be very safe... there was hardly any street crime in Moscow before the fall of the Soviet Union.

Of course at the other extreme (freedom!) Dodge City at the height of the old west was a pretty safe place too, and far FAR safer than modern Chicago.

I somewhat understand his thinking, but gun owners are not, out of cause or want, agents of political corruption. They simple worry about losing the freedom. Personally, I support some regulation to deter criminals, but also support the right to own a gun. .

Where he gets his thoughts on the 2nd Amendment. I don't know. I think he needs to read it. I did. Not much there to imply anything but the right unless you read more articles, these under other amendments, then you get a better understanding to the meaning of the 2nd amendment and it's right. Again I did and don't agree, as needed protection from OUR government, nor his expanded interpretation, nether of which, I can find no support under the Constitution.

Our elected Sheriffs are keepers of the peace and defenders of liberty.

Their appointed Chief of Police are profiteers of crime and enforcers of tyranny.

Police powers must be subject to "we the people" via the ballot box, not the untouchable baronial bureaucrats.

And yet Chicago, a city with no civilian gun ranges and bans on both assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, finds itself laboring to stem a flood of gun violence that contributed to more than 500 homicides last year and at least 40 killings already in 2013, including a fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl on Tuesday. -from the New York Times, January 29, 2013.

From the way it sounds the gun control laws in Chicago are a danger to public safety. If the criminals knew the average citizen might be armed the crime and murder rate would drop instead the know they're the only ones with guns.

The 2nd Amendment was meant for law abiding citizens. To protect themselves against a would-be burgular, or intruder. Thugs will get guns off the black market anyway. They steal them from warehouses. They have shipments coming from the borders of Mexico. But Politicians turns the blind cheek, against that, and blames it on law abiding citizens privalege to have guns. While thugs will contunue to get them.

The good guy gets punished and the criminal has no concequence at all because they don't care. Politicians are too involved in their own agenda to see the truth, or they refuse to see it, or they're too damn ignorant to see it.
