Cheney Calling Iraq Troop Withdrawal A Waste: Should we withdraw the troops?

The deadline for US troops to withdraw from Iraq is June 30, 2009. However, Dick Cheney thinks that pulling the US troops out of Iraq would "waste" the sacrifice of the troops. Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, however is very happy that the US troops will finally be leaving. Dick Cheney has been trying to keep the troops in Iraq as long as possible for a while now.
 Cheney is right. Keep the troops in Iraq longer.

    I'm keeping with the man who helped maintain our freedom from terrorists for all the years since 9/11...who could question that judgement but a nincompoot! If ever there was a self serving political machine, it's the one doing the tearing down and destruction of America as we speak. Who could be more self serving than Obama, Pelosi, Franks(fannie mae/FreddieMac)mortgage destroyer...the list is endless and backed up by truths and facts.     It was Bush and Cheney that made the deal to withdraw the troops. So why is he bitching about it now? If he wants to talk about a waste let's talk about him going there to begin with. Not all of us have memory loss like him.

    this is obambi's issue now - if things fall to shit, he can't blame Bush - he is on his own - this was his decision and the people that voted for him based on this single issue will have to answer to those that were "swayed" to all the wonderful hope and change we are experiencing.

    After a few IEDs and suicide bombings in Sadr City , Mosul and the Green Zone, we'll be right back in there as the primary defence force -- not the vaunted Iraqi security forces -- and the Iraqi govt. will still be calling our troops "invaders". Meanwhile, the Iraqi Oil ministry is diligently trying to figure out a way to inflate the price of crude selling to the US mkt. Just a way of saying "thanks" from your friends in Baghdad. And Oh, Barak who?

    We should withdraw Cheney from public life. Listen...the only reason we're hearing from him is because he's terrified that the Dems will prosecute him. They'll need a lift at midterms, even with Obama's economic plan working, and getting Dick in front of a Senate committee is just what the doctor ordered. Come to think of it...not a bad idea....

    you should checkout the scott ritter speech on my youtube channel Imaginepeace63. I feelings about the military are agreement with him. The military is no longer used for freedom. It is used to protect corpatist interest. It is used to protect the war profiteers like halibutron and KBR who don't give a shit about our troops.     The war on Iraq was one of Cheney's wars of choice, not a necessity. He and his Bush lied us into the war and then compounded it by continueing to attack the Iraqi people and causing millions of deaths and millions more to leave their country. He was one of the ones who put the Viceroy in and also supported the ethnic cleansing in Baghdad. He is responsible for the deaths of our troops. What a creep and war criminal is Dick Cheeney!

    ...we shouldn't have been there in the first place! Our troops should have remained focused on destroying the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan,and capturing bin Laden as opposed to attacking a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with the 9-11 attacks! All we managed to accomplish by doing that is opening up the door for Iran to move in as soon as we're gone!

    So, we're perfectly willing to put the burden of protecting Iraq on the backs of our service people and the taxpayer? Many are now going on the third and fourth deployment to the region in a combat role. Think they're tired and worn? How many more suicides and divorces among soldiers do we need?

    We spend billions every month that we could use right here to fix some of our domestic problems. Come to think about it the dollars we spend there could be used to make us safer here.
    Can we expect to have to prop up their "democracy" with American bayonets forever?

    From comments here it seems like forever is OK

    the middle east is not secure yet. If we pull out too soon, there will be opportunities for the jihadist and alquieda to take control of areas we have sacrificed over 4000 of our young to secure for a representative government.

    Actually our troops can't tell the difference between go Afghans or Iraqis and the AL Queda. They will lose power if we leave the middle east all together. COntractors and troops. They fight because they want us to leave. Maybe we should listen.

    We've heard it on the news. although I can't comfirm that this information comes from reliable sources, (could be CNN) but is is constantly reported that the Iraqiis want the U.S. out of their country.

    I saw news clips of what seemed to be Iraqiis celebrating over a U.S. withdrawal, but what will happen if certain factions cause an uproar against the current government? They'll call upon the U.S. again. But will our current administration be willing to go back in if needed? I think the U.S. should stay put for awhile.

    The Iraqis have been asking us to leave their country for several years. There would be no problem with sectarian violence if we had not invaded the country illegally and occupied it for 6 years.

    I think we should allow the troops and the military to do the job they are trained to do and keep the damned politicians in their closets where they belong. Give the troops a "finish line" and let them execute the mission. The US has not "won" a peace since the UN and the politicians got involved in armchair generalship.
