Crystal clear explanation of how badly Romney is lying - and how smart and sensible Obama's policies on Medicare are. Might even be simple enough for most GOP'er to comprehend (no gurantees, though......).

She right on. I know seniors who are now paying less for prescriptions. I pay no deductible for any annual exams. Romney/Ryan will make us pay more dollars out of our pockets, thus giving insurance companies more profits. Everything she said is true.

That is fine. You better start socking away your money because if medicare goes, you will be choosing between medical care or dog food. I can guarantee that. I am retired and make enough to have medicare and a supplemental insurance, but if I had to pay another $6000 out of pocket, I wouldnt be doing well at all. I dont want that for my children and grandchildren. We are all middle income people, and most people cant afford to invest or put extra money aside for when they get old.

Don't be such a drama queen. Your Medicare's not going anywhere. Nor is it for anyone else over 55. I have TriCare so I'm not concerned for myself or my wife. Where's your outrage over Obama's administration stealing $700 BILLION out of Medicare to fund Obamacare?

I know that. I said I want my kids to have the same as me. You are on tricare so you dont care about others who are not? Do you realize how little you pay compared to those who didnt serve this country? You deserve everything you are getting and more, but at least do some homework and find out about those who dont have tricare. There is a very huge difference.

Yes, I find it so disappointing to hear these republicans say that if you are over 65, you dont have to worry. Common sense would tell them that we still care about what happens to our kids, but I guess common sense has no place in their minds.
  • Stryder lstl5 2012/08/22 01:00:43
    Stryder
Actually, it's 55, not 65. Common sense would dictate that you want to fix something before it's broken to point of disrepair. I'm 52 and I would have no problem if I had the option of investing a percentage of my retirement.

Well, there is nothing stopping you from doing it right now. Take money out of your check right now and put it toward an investment, but you wont and you know why? It is because it is not mandatory like ss and medicare. Young kids will not invest if they dont have to because they will take that money to live on. They think they can live forever and are not worried about old age. And then they get old, and look to their govt for help. When you retire, you will not only have to worry about daily living expenses but you will also have to have about $120,000 put aside for extra midical expenses that medicare wont cover anymore like it does now. I have to have a supplement to cover the 20% that medicare doesnt pay, not to mention prescription meds, and I pay just as much for my private insurance as I do medicare, but when you get old, and this crazy plan of Ryans is in affect and medicare only covers maybe 50%, your private insurance will cost you an outrageous amount of money. They can fix medicare rigfht now and what they have to do is raise premiums based on income. They just need to do it instead of stalling.

A sentence in the middle of a discussion doe not mean anything.
The money is taken from that paid to the biggest insurance companies and will go to medicare under the affordable care act.
And most of the insurance companies agreed to this as they will be getting more customers.

Mitt Romney most assuredly lies about Obama's plans for Medicare. To be fair, this video uses the highest estimate for what Ryan's plan would cost seniors with the onset of the voucher program (I have to use Ryan's plan since Romney's plan is fictitious). The $6,000+ estimate uses insurance rates that would most likely drop significantly if the voucher plan were actually instituted, but there's no way to provide a real estimate of what would happen in that case. Even with the overly optimistic assumption that insurance companies would give private citizens the 30% discount they currently give Medicare, Romney's intention to repeal the ACA would re-open the prescription drug loophole and cost beneficiaries more anyway. I can't swear that Obama's plan will work perfectly. What ever does? Ryan's plan to give out vouchers and hope the insurance companies are nice enough not to charge more than that is just naive, though.

Nobody is considering, with regard to the voucher plan if my assumptions are correct; What if the issuing insurance co or entity goes bankrupt, where will the funds be and how will they be used, risky ventures?, how will they account for inflation and cost of living adjustments which historically have been off the charts with medical care. Might that be putting people in a more compromising position?

When you say "how will they account for inflation...", I assume "they" means Romney/Ryan (?), and the answer is that I have no idea. I haven't seen any numbers that describe the rate of growth for the vouchers. Personally, I hope we never have to find out. I'm skeptical about voucher plans across the board (education and medical care). I only commented as I did because I think it's a disservice for the Democratic campaign to rely on what is really a half-truth (i.e., that $6,000+ figure). Obama's plan is better on its own merits. In the video, Ms. Cutter does say "as much as six thousand (whatever)", but I've seen it mentioned without qualification elsewhere.

Yes, this is a great video. I think I saw it on TV the other night. Not sure if it was run as an add or if one of the talk shows had it on. Might have been on Chris Matthews NBC.

The Romney/Ryan tag team is lying through their teeth. They fully intend to destroy Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and repeal ObamaCare in order to give even more tax breaks to the millionaires and billionaires.

Even if this wasn't Romney's plan, it really doesn't matter because if he is elected, he will be taking his orders from the Koch Brothers and his other corporate owners and they will be finally be running this country just as they always planned. R&R; will simply be their puppets.

This is a very dangerous time in America. I'm sure it's the most dangerous time in my lifetime. In this election we are being asked to decide what kind of country we, as Americans, want to live in.

Do we want to be a country that is a shining example of what a free and democratic country can be for its citizens, our elderly, our poor and the disabled, educating our children, inventing new and great techniques to help all of mankind in the fields of medicine, science, space exploration, advanced education and human rights?

Or do we want to be a mean, selfish, under educated country where it's ...

I know which country I want to live in and that's why I will be voting for Obama. Just remember folks, Obama is one man. He will need a Congress that will get behind him so that he can do what needs to be done to get this country moving again. Remember that whey your voting for your Representatives and Senators in November.

We will rise or fall together. Remember that when you vote.

Do we want a government that creates the atmosphere and gives us access to the tools needed to succeed.

Or do we want the dribs and drabs that may or may not trickle down from the already over stuffed bazillionaires?

Romney should try the truth sometimes. It is a lot easier to remember and you don't have to worry about what you said in the past. Of course, truthfulness would be instant suicide for Romney.
