Litigation. Another right that has evolved into a societal cancer.

I don't blame the victim. I just think that there's an OBVIOUS risk in holding company with a WILD ANIMAL. Especially if one has a history of questionable behavior.

who is responsible for a pet, the owner or a friend..I always warn people that my Princess does not take well to petting.

I would venture to say that every person in a situation holds a certain degree of responsibility. For instance, I have a few different friends that keep Pit Bulls as pets. I do not like those dogs. I do not trust them. If I go to my friends house and his dog bites me, I blame would myself for letting that happen. Instead, I avoid being around them. I call ahead and ask them to please corral the beast.

It's not a good choice to associate with someone who is that intimate with an animal.

This should have been a clue to Charla that the friend was not quite right. Sister Jean, I am clarifying your earlier comment that I seemed to "blame the victim." That seems like a hard stance when I am sustaining that one of our most effective defenses is our right to pick those we associate with. There were many context clues that the "friend," was not exactly "sane." I would suggest anyone stay away from people who are "bathing with wild animals." Who knows what else this woman was doing was her animal.

I completely agree with your perspective. We all must own up to our personal responsibility. It would have been different if the Chimp broke into Charla's home and attacked her, or if she was a camping in the woods, walking in the park... But this woman (unfortunate outcome that she did have) chose to knowingly associate with a woman who kept wild pets on the premises. It's the same thing (in my opinion) if I chose to hang out in a crack den, but was then surprised when I was affected by drug related activity or violence.

Exactly. Accountability is a scarce thing in our society these days. As I previously stated: Litigation is a right we all share that has turned into a societal cancer.

Charla Nash has been through Hell and back again. Face transplant seems to have gone well for her......thanks be. I'd love to see legislation passed preventing exotic animals from being kept as domestic pets. It's virtually always a death sentence for the animals involved, and sometimes for the people. I don't believe there are happy endings for exotics kept as pets......and Charla is collateral damage. All she was doing was trying to help her friend.

It's good that she won that battle. The State shouldn't allow people to have exotic pets that put the general public in danger. This woman will never be the same.

Well nothing can replace what she lost... Poor woman. but that is the reason I don't believe in befriending weirdos. It's not normal to try to own wild animals. Anyone who does that is a weirdo... This woman should have stayed away from the weirdo "friend."
