Rock artist, Carlos Santana, told CNN that Obama should legalize pot, and give the money to teachers in schools. Santana is known for 3 things: his amazing music, his love for making life fun and helping others. Well, I guess you can say that wanting Obama to legalize marijuana, and decriminalize it, could go under helping others. Santana's whole deal is that smoking weed is so insignificant compared to other things happening in life... that reinvesting money gained by marijuana sales could help the economy. Give the pot money to teachers, schools and teachers, who need it, to maintain better education.
Do you agree with Santana's idea to legalize pot? (more)

Yes, Santana has it right. Legalize Marijuana and donate money to schools.
Prohibition of pot, like alcohol before it, has created a huge market for organized crime. Empowering criminal activity is just plain stupid.

Even my 90+ year-old mother thought that the punishment did not fit the crime. Too many young people have had their lives destroyed with a police record for smoking pot. I don't think it deserves any more punishment than for drinking ( which is only if you are under age.)No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
moderated...No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
We already have enough drunk drivers on the road. Now if marijuana gets legalized we'll have stoned people getting behind the wheel. We'll have stoned people walking around making fools of themselves cause they can't get arrested for being under the influence. Not to mention the fact that the police will have to waste time deciphering whether the person is under the legal substance marijuana or another illegal substance when they could be off catching criminals. Then big tobacco will get even bigger because they'll want their hand in the marijuana business and they'll start promoting that children start smoking pot early. No Mr. Santana, I don't want that smut on my streets.No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
The only thing we need to legalize is the deportation of worthless drug users.No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
BECAUSE..WELL I JUST THINK IT'S STUPID IT WILL MAKE US KIDS GO CRAZY AND THE MEDIA ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT US (THE STUDENTS STIIL IN SCHOOL) ABOUT EDU.AND EDU.THAT.THAT IS A BUNCH OF BULL CRAP TO ME!No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
Apparently the 56% that answered yes to legalized marijauna must have grown up in the hippie movement too.Santana wants Obama to legalize weed you say?
wellu kno how the thing about the alcohol went after Congress baned it???
how EVERYONE started drinking?
and when they unbaned it it went down???
maybe if they legalize marajuanna and other drugs, it will lose its popularity
i kno many people still drink
adn just as many people will still do drugs
but we're not gonna b able to stop them anyway
they always find a way to get to it
theres nothing we can do
the dumb ones will go for the pot
and the smart ones wont
idk
but thats all we can hope
No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
The use of pot leads to further experimentation with deadlier drugs.Yes, Santana has it right. Legalize Marijuana and donate money to schools.
heaven knows that educating the future generations(of which i have not contributed) is a better way than the billions this country has spent on "the war on drugs" that has been raging for the last fifty years. it tikles my sides to think that after prohibition this country did not learn a damn thing from trying to make alcohol outlawed. come on "reefer madness" going from smoking a joint to playing the piano to murder? what kind of shit is he smoking cause i have got to try it out if it that crazy? tax it use the revenue and get over pot!i stayed across the street! wakey wakey, smoke and bakey!
No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
santana is a drug addict...of course American's will listen to someone who has fired his brains on drugs over the years...NOT. If you wants to get stoned, I have a backyard of river rocks I would gladly toss at his pointed little head until he wakes up and smells the roses...Santana wants Obama to legalize weed you say?
i don't give a ..... what Carlos thinks about anything.a) He is a brilliant mind, musical virtuoso, creative, and a shrewd, very rich business man...All American Ideals...& you're bad rapping it!
b) What he has to say merits listening to...politicians make public policy!
c) Open your mind and take off the blinders...you'll be happier.
b) "Don't put any more stock in what Clooney,Garafalo, or Penn have to say".....Or Regan, Thompson, Norris, Governator, etc. too?
No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
Pot and Alcohol should be banned.Yes, Santana has it right. Legalize Marijuana and donate money to schools.
Legalize Pot and abolish any laws that are not DIRECTLY in-line with our constitutionSantana wants Obama to legalize weed you say?
Should musicians make public policy...He obviously smoked his brains out already...so we should listen to him for public policy.b) What he has to say merits listening to...politicians make public policy!
c) Open your mind and take off the blinders...you'll be happier.
B) He is suggesting a change to public policy. He may not make it, but he can have an influence on it.
C) I love it when people tell me to conform to there lifestyle to be happy. Honestly I am happy the way I am. Thank you for the advice, but honestly I do not really think I could be happier with my life.
--.2) State & Fed. govt.s should all act 100% in the public interest...I share skeptisism w/ you vs. throwing "baby out w/ the bath water.
A.3) The biggest underlying question is: Where is the 'line drawn' balancing personal liberty vs. 'greater public good'? (Ex. Doesn't the Dept. of Alcohol, Tobbacco, & Firearms exist just for this reason?) The diversity of strongly held opinions is for the people is for Congress to decide. For the record, I'm not a
advocating the use of pot; I am advocating a "2nd end to 'Prohibition"!
B) Carlos certain has a Right to express himself even if 'celebrity' has greater influence on opinion than you are me. (ex. I was not a Chas. Heston fan)
C) I apologize for the sarcasism, I wasn't really suggesting that you change your lifestyle...Happy is Good. Also, I'm not a fan of conformity either...prefer diversityI am advocating an end to "Prohibition #2 as I believe it would be better for the USA on so many levels.

I never like to listen to celebrities for advice many of them have a superiority complex where they can do the very thing they campaign against. Ex. Al Gore and energy consumption. Many Celebrities involved with the 2004 Vote or Die campaign never actually voted. Numerous of examples of celebs performing for end of globalization, or pro environment benefits then drive there hummers and fly there private jets around...This is the reason I cannot take most celebrities seriously.
Sarcasm rarely travels well with text. Ask any teenager with a text messaging plan at one point they misinterpreted someones response or question and it created so much high school drama.
Very Cool.

My former answer many years ago, was always, "no." However, it seems that as a society we may make more progress by legalization and taxation. The legal and police recsources we could devote to other matters is significant. It was, generally, legal in the US until 1938.No. Santana is a crazy hippie. Don't legalize the sale of pot.
All we need is more stoned people on the roadsdont ask how i know this...
