The President is limited to two 4-year terms of office. Some members of Congress, like Dick Lugar have been there for over 30 years!!
As the people demand change and speak out, elected representatives need to keep pace. It's time for Congressional Term Limits!!

Term Limits when last addressed were shot down as well in an amazing shell game, where everyone gets to support it but flushed it anyway.

    http://webstation19.8k.com/ar...

Term limits are arguably most undemocratic in nature and rightly so, it seems that it would take away the peoples choice to elect the same morons into office over and over, but the truth is if we can't have Campaign reform we need Term limits and The yellow bellies currently controlling the future of our country will not do a damn thing to change the status quo as long as it keeps them in power and cash

Absolutely! We have term limits for the President for a reason, and we should impose those terms for ALL of congress for that very same reason!

You are factually wrong in saying Sen. Lugar has been in Congress over 30 years, when he's been a SENATOR, not a CONGRESSMAN; but I know what you mean. I disagree DEEPLY with Sen. Lugar, but I support the right of his constituents to elect him as long as they wish to. Yes, I'd say the same about a President, too.

I would LOVE to see term limits for Congress. These guys become entrenched and you can't budge them after a while. And it's the peoples' fault. They vote for the same guy time after time because he may not have done any good but he didn't do any harm. That's not the way we should be deciding our elections. So, we'd need a Constitutional Amendment and Congress would have to pass it but there is a fat chance of that happening. So what's plan B? Can it start in the states? I don't know the process but we should find out.

The trouble is Pat, that it doesn't matter anymore how long a congressman serves. Until there is campaign finance reform there is not a politico that goes to Washington, regardless if its h/her first term or 100th, they are bought and paid for by special interests, lobbyists and K Street. The '10 ruling by this hapless Supreme Court has made it even more possible for unfettered monies to flow into campaign chests with no accountability whatsoever. Its nothing short of obscene.

I agree with you totally. We need campaign finance reform. The Supreme Court should be ashamed of their Citizens United decision. So should Romney with his "corporations are people" statement.

They aren't part of the 1% Obama is talking about. He's only attacking the 1% that disagree with him. They don't understand that there is usually something in it for them if they go along, like Buffet getting all the extra freight on his railroad when Obama nixed the Canadian pipeline.

Huh? How about you offer some actual EVIDENCE that Mr. Obama attacks the "1%" that disagree with him? Like maybe some evidence for your accusation about railroad freight, especially how it might compare to the Koch brothers buying of Republicans to further their ends?

Term limits would be an excellent leap for the democratic system. A country where politicians can view their work more as "paid volunteer work" than a "career" should attract a more morally righteous crowd of congressmen, since they would join politics for reasons other than simply as a job, but as a passion, maybe? Or am I too optimistic?

ABSOLUTELY!! I believe many people who enter politics do so with good intentions and passion to make things better... others do so for their own gain. Regardless, two terms provides enough time for the good guys to accomplish something worthwhile and limits damage the bad guys bring about.

Living in Indiana and not voting for Lugar was a great experience. Placing the Retire Lugar signs and explaining to sheeple why he had to go was a great treat! Along with Term limits we need to do away with their pensions.
I also took the liberty last week of telling Indiana District 9 Congressman, Indiana to his face exactly what I thought of him, and his lame ass excuse for voting for CISPA and NDAA 2012. He is a maggot and I will vote for anyone before casting a vote for him!

The GOP House has been suckling at the public teat doing nothing to move this country forward passing zilch and taking more time off than in session than any congress in decades. To do nothing these bums get $172,000 per year and benefits far greater than the public sector unions they complain about. They do deserve their approval in the polls.

Pelosi got things done. You may not agree with her but the fact is she got nearly everything she brought up (more than twice the GOP numbers) to become a passed bill. Her counterpart in the Senate a weakling that got little done, let the GOP run roughshod over him never changing the rules. Over 400 Pelosi House passed bills never got a vote in the Senate. That is more than the previous 30 years combined. I don't blame the GOP, I blame the weakling that let himself get run over. The constitution is clear simple majority in the Senate passes a bill.

No one should be a career politician!!! They need to go back to our founding fathers, being in government was their 2ND JOB not the primary one!! It was a SERVICE to the country to serve in politics and not a paying full-time job. If they didn't get salaries as large as they get now they would leave after terms!

You have gone from near 50% approval to 30%. Your reps walked away from 3.3 trillion in spending cuts in the big WH deal. The result will be only 1 trillion in debt ceiling automatic cuts and 4 trillion in new taxes when the Dubya tax cuts end in Jan. You have gotten nothing but a bad deal from these bums with the no compromise position.
