Dishonest Media, Herman Cain, National Restaurant Association, Sexual Harassment
In a new Poll Position-TV Newser
poll conducted on Saturday, a large majority of those surveyed said
they agreed with Herman Cain that there are too many people in the media
who are downright dishonest.
Cain, who is under siege from the media over allegations of sexual
harassment going back to his days when he was the CEO and president of
the National Restaurant Association, went on the offensive Saturday when
he criticized the press for their focus on the allegations.
The poll asked respondents the following question: On Saturday,
presidential candidate Herman Cain made this statement: “There are too
many people in the media who are downright dishonest.” Do you agree or
disagree with that statement?
Sixty-four percent said yes, they agree, 19% said no and 17% had no opinion.
The party-line breakdown was somewhat predictable with 83% of
Republicans agreeing with the question followed by 61% of Independents
and 45% of Democrats.
Along racial and gender lines, the results were as follows: 66% of
whites agreed, as did 61% of Hispanics and 57% of blacks. Sixty-nine
percent of males agreed and 59% of females did as well.
The results are in line with previous nationwide surveys that show
that the public in general has a low opinion of the media, which may
help explain why the media onslaught hasn’t been able to totally derail
the Cain campaign.
