I already know the answer to this question. I'm just posting this to see how many people know this as it seems a lot of people don't know what the rolls of the parties were in terms of who was liberal and who was conservative during the Civil War.

    The Republicans were the Liberals/Progressives

The terms "liberal" and "conservative" have had different *practical* meanings. Even now, there is a difference between conservative and Conservative as well as a difference between liberal and Liberal.
Then, the Republicans (a new fledgling political party) were radical (liberal) for wanting to change the status quo and eliminate slavery. This was the intent of the founders and the reason the Constitution was written the way it was, so in this regard the Republicans would also qualify as Conservatives. The Democrats were conservative for wanting to keep the status quo and not give up their slaves.

Lincoln was a liberal as back in his day the Republican Party was the liberal party which you didn't get when you voted on this poll. The ideas Lincoln had about ending slavery and giving blacks the right to vote were very liberal for his time.

Grammar, spelling and sentence structure are your friends. They make you look smart and educated, rather than idiotic and raving insanely.

You know, kinda like how you look right now.

Alright then. Defend your side of the argument. Prove, with evidence and referenced sources, that Lincoln was a Republican in the exact same vein as Republicans are today and that the Republican party has not changed at all since its inception and break from the Whig party in the mid 1800's

Go ahead and look at the party platforms of the time. Democrats where the ultra-conservatives while Republicans where the new kids on the block and reformist party.
