Opposing Obama is not racist

Since before Obama took office and until the present, the narrative has been and is: if you oppose anything he does, there must be an underlying racist motive to your opposition. And if there's not underlying racism, as you claim, then you must agree with everything he does.

Those who wave the flag of progress in the face of America-in-decline -- and in defense of this president -- do so behind accusations that common sense, hard working Americans of all colors (e.g. Tea Party Patriots) are displaying their anger toward Barack Obama simply because he's black.

And no matter how long these accusations go unproven or how many times they are actually disproven, they continue to raise the cry of racism. MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry took the discussion of racism in America to new heights of absurdity (link to the story on The Blaze here) last week describing America's response to the attacks on 9/11...

Americans in part identify who we are, and who deserves what, through our notions of whiteness and of the racial enemies that are the non-whites. And in this moment, the new racial enemy became not so much Reagan's 'welfare queen,' who was imaginary, but instead this imagined other that is somehow Muslim, or Arab, or Sikh, or something else. We became willing to stomach a kind of horrific racial violence in the name of national security. It is something that we have been willing to stomach as a people over and over again in our history.

Again, hard working, common sense people can't possibly identify with the astonishing assessment that we all acted out of out our whiteness and turned our wrath of "horrific racial violence" on non-whites, simply because we hate non-whites!

This doesn't make sense because there's not a thread of truth in this elitist claim. It makes even less sense to common sense Americans than all the claims that Tea Party Patriots and others don't like Obama simply because of his non-whiteness.

There is a divide in America that's hardly ever mentioned in this debate, but it's not a prejudice divide. It's the divide between the elites and the average citizens. Most American's don't see Barack Obama's non-whiteness as a problem, but they do disdain his intellectual elitism! Elitism like I've not seen in my lifetime, which included living through the presidency of Jimmy Carter. Average Americans inherently reject this kind of alleged intellectual superiority.

But we don't just see Obama's elitism, we see the elitism of politicians from both parties and the media elites that support them.

This is what Reagan described as a danger to American Exceptionalism and our freedom in his speech A Time For Choosing at the 1964 Republican National Convention:

This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

It's the elitism of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed who pushed the unpopular Affordable Care Act through Congress in spite of, and some would say in the face of, the American people who opposed it. It's Eric Holder's fight with Arizona on SB 1070 in spite of popular support for the law and for immigration law enforcement by the states. And it's the President himself leading this group of liberal elites with numerous acts of defying the will of the people and congress.

To intellectual elites of this type, those who oppose them are not just ignorant, they are stupid. And there must be racism at the heart of opposition because the reasoning of the elites makes so much sense to them.

America's response to 9/11, opposition to the Affordable Care Act, and resistance to a government increasing in size with out-of-control spending has nothing to do with hatred for non-whiteness and everything to do with good-ole, common sense patriotism.

Americans see their freedoms eroding under this administration faster than ever before. And that's the source of their resistance to this president and his administration!

    We certainly are looked at as having racist motives. I do not like Obama and his entire administration. Not all of his czars are black.

    I am opposed to his policies and it has nothing to do with his race. What others think is not my problem. In my heart of hearts I know I am not racist.

    If th SCOTUS votes down the healthcare bill, it will prove that a bunch of laywers turned politions wates 3 1/2 years passing something that was illeagal.

    That is why I am against Obama, and that's just the tip of the iceburg.

    Don't you know? Anytime you say anyting that goes against another race, makes you a racist. It doesn't matter how true it is. Or how much merit it has. Your not alowed to say anthing other than positive things, no matter how untrue they are.

    It isn"t just Obama. It is a Democratic Party tactic. Blame the other side for doing what you are doing. They are the party of race division, class division, gender division, and religion division. All you have to do is look at their record. I know of no one that dosen't like Obama due to his race, but I know many that don't like his policies.Division by twisting the truth is the tool Democrats use to influence uninformed minds and hide the truth.

    And actually the 'net net of all the racism issue may be zero because the people with some element of anti black racism were already unlikely to be Democrats and vote for any democrat and similarly those who vote for him 'because he IS black' were also unlikely to vote for a Republican anyway... His race may simply have intensified their support or opposition. The majority of people who both voted for and against Obama were not motivated by RACE.

    I'm with you there and all the tests (on Americans) reveal that indeed Blacks are as afraid of unknown Blacks as Whites are... Our society and experience teaches us that. That said that leaves all of us leaving a a hitch hiking Barrack Obama along side the road as we pick up Charles Manson... It's a mental discipline to put the prejudices aside and it isn't always successful.

    Mainly I just don't like his policies and his narcistic attitude. Secondly no one can call me a racist because I may be white but I have 2 adopted children one is black and the other is hispanic.

    Because that's the way this administration and the Obama supporters want it to be portrayed as...I believe that this administration has created more racial divide in the Country then most of us have seen in a very long time.     BUT..... There are definite racists in the mix as well --- some are overt, some are covert and some don't know it themselves... Doesn't take long on SH to see raving seething diatribes re: Obama and Holder and to realize that these have a totally unique ferocity and intensity even as compared to your typical standard traditional RWNJ missives hurled at Clintons and Gore in the past....

    Yes. You can be opposed to President Obama for reasons other than his Race. Just look at the cases of Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter... both White, both Democrats.. still attacked like rabid dogs while President and in some cases they are still under attack.

    However, to think that none of the people who have issues with President Obama have racist motives.. well, that's a bit silly.

    Some people do have an issue with his skin color. And some would have an issue with any resident of the White House that's a Democrat no matter what they did.

    Yeah but it's there on many fronts..
    4 years ago...
    I heard people say that since I'm Female I should support Hillary and have the first woman President.
    And I heard people say that they were voting for Obama to finally have a black man in the White House.
    And I heard supporters of the other candidates say that everyone should vote for their guys because no way would a woman or a African American win the vote for President.

    And now...
    I hear people say no one should vote for Romney because no way will a Mormon win the White House.

    Any difference is enough to get heads nodding and tongues wagging on both sides.

    For myself.. I go with the person that comes closest to my own political leanings and that I think has a chance to win. There are some third party folks out there that have matched closer to me but I'll keep an eye on them and see if their party becomes viable.. right now that's a no.
