CAN WE HAVE SOME COMMENTS FROM THOSE WHO ARE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY THIS WEEK? 3.5 MILLION WERE WITHOUT EARLIER, NOW THE NUMBER IS LESS THAN HALF. PLEASE TELL US THE PROBLEMS YOU HAVE INCURRED.

Homeland Security and the Pentagon have for years warned that America's electrical grid is most vulnerable to terrorist attack. When they describe the possible results, almost no attention is given to the potential disasters. There will be lessons to learn
from the several days that some will be without power this week.

If your power is off or that of your neighbors, tell us the personal experiences so we might compare them to what the warnings have described. Lacking water, sewage, gasoline, police and fire protection, medical services, food, etc... whatever has been your experience.

We lucked out. We only lost our power for 20 hours. There are still parts of town that are without power.

Some do, some don't. Some have batteries and personal generators. I'm patient, can wait for answers.

Well, that should be a comfort if the air conditioner isn't working or the Walmart is closed.

I am thinking about the people that are suffering and you are being a smart ass? Older people will suffer with the heat and people are losing their food supplies. What are you doing about the problem? I will be happy to take in a family to help them through this mess.

Now you are offering something of help. However, Texas is a long way from the problem. I can't help much from Arizona either. I want to compare what Homeland Security and other agencies have warned to actual results of being without electircal power for an extended period. It is possible for carefully planned terrorist attacks to leave portions of the country without power for as much as a year, certainly a large portion for six months or more.

What do you want to know? We lost power twice once with the windstorm again with an electrical storm, many in surrounding areas are still without it. I have seen worse. The flood in '01 and a virtual blizzard about three winters ago. But, you aren't going to freeze to death in summer so I can't complain too much. I will say I have never seen like the winds we had, not in mountains which is where I live. 60, 70 & 80 mph gusts.

Governor Tomlin was interviewed Sunday and described some details of the lacking power. That is what I am hoping to draw here. We can imagine the lights are out in the kitchen, but what else is the result?

Lots of debris, fallen trees, blocking roads (and driveways, mine in particular). Some loss of life, not sure of the details because without tele. there is not a lot of news and many local channels are still off air. Just a huge mess with a lot of waste.

Do you still have municipal water and sewage services? Are retail stores open and stocked with food, are gasoline pumps working, any factories or employers closed? Hospitals, nursing homes, schools and day care, etc. open and operating?

Many retailers were closed and many muni water systems down, or on "boil water" orders. Many grocers forced to dump spoiled merchandise. Many places no gas available because pumps require electricity. As I said info is scant due to loss of able electric, cable etc But, I have seen what much of what I described in my own community.
