This isn't the first time he's done this. He did it to Newt Gingrich also. This is the first time he's been called on it.He should go to jail for slander.

Truth is an absolute defense to a charge of slander. In order for Mitt to sue Senator Reid for slander he would have to prove that what the Senator said was untrue. And in order to do that he would have to release his tax returns.

    Checkmate.

He has already released all the returns he is required to release by law. All you liberal schmoes want is to root through his personal life to see if you can phoney up some kind of b.s. charge of wrong doing.Your tactics are juvenile. Touch'e!

No candidate is required to release any tax returns by law. It's a question of whether Mitt has something to hide or he doesn't, and only Mitt can answer that one. Until he does, we have a right to speculate, especially since Mitt has based his entire campaign on his "abilities" as a "successful businessman". If we don't know HOW he became a successful businessman, how can we tell if he's Warren Buffett or Al Capone?

reply is regards to the counter point of why doesn't Reid release HIS tax info, why doesn't Obamanation release his tax information and real proof of birth and real college transcripts and real highschool deploma etc.

Harry Reid isn't running for President, and President Obama's last ten years of tax returns have been released. And the President released proof that he was born in Hawaii over four years ago. You should try to keep up.

ok sheeple, you can believe all that MSM BS. I suppose you still believe in Santa, Easter Bunny, tooth fairy, Oswald killed JFK, we had no clue the Japs were going to bomb Pearl Harbor and 9/11 was done by Bin Laden.
  • ProudPr... S and S 2012/08/06 20:47:19

Santa, the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy I leave to the discretion between children and their parents. I do indeed have serious doubts about whether Oswald killed JFK - it seems much more likely that it was Right Wing corporatists upset that JFK planned to end the Viet Nam war and thus cut off their pork barrell payoffs to defense countractors. I also think we knew a Japanese attack was coming (though I'm not sure if we knew the exact time it would be launched), and if bin Laden was not behind the 9/11 attacks (which I firmly believe he was) then the only other logical suspect would be Dick Cheney.

But getting back to your burden of proof point of view - if you believe the President was not born in Honolulu then prove it. In over four years with God knows how many right wing millions spent, how is it that the Obama haters have yet to come up with ONE piece of paper anywhere in the world that even suggests, much less proves, that the President was born anywhere else.

No, if you agreed with me you'd be relying on facts. Facts are not debatable. They exist independent of your opinions. The President was born in Honolulu. His birth certificate proves that (along with a pile of other evidence). If you believe otherwise, then find a fact to back up your opinion. But unfortunately, there aren't any.

IDK where you're getting your info (MSM i suspect). apparently you don't know how the corruption of Hawaii birth certificates have been issued. Infact it's been proven that anyone could get a BC no matter what country they were born. It only takes one inconsistant statement to make question of the whole story. there's way more than 1.

what's also odd, there is no record of his thesis, no info of his college research. My brother has a PhD and I can find numerous documentation along with a recorded interview he had at Harvard for a corporate law lecture.

You're wrong. Harry Reid has actually claimed that Mitt Romney has not filed tax returns for ten years. He says, on the basis of a "confidential source," that Mitt Romney has committed felony tax evasion.

    That's misprision of a felony.

Reid should go to prison for that sort of thing.
  • ProudPr... Temlako... 2012/08/06 19:59:46

Senator Reid has not at any time claimed that Romney did anything illegal.

(and just FYI, but mis-prizing is not a word)

You're wrong. In fact, I think you're lying.

Harry Reid said that Mitt Romney has not released ten years' worth of tax returns because he CANNOT release those tax returns, because he never FILED for those years!

    That's misprision of a felony.

Reid should go to jail for those remarks.
  • ProudPr... Temlako... 2012/08/07 02:22:19 (edited)
    ProudProgressive
Harry never said that. He said that he has a reliable source with access to Bain Capital's financial records who believes that Mitt has not paid any taxes in at least some of the last ten years. He never has suggested that it is illegal for someone with as much income as Mitt to pay no taxes, he only implies (as anyone would) that if indeed someone like Mitt who makes many millions of dollars a year pays no taxes then there is clearly something wrong with our tax code. If Mitt can prove otherwise, he's welcome to do so. But we both know he won't do that LOL. If he could, he would have done so within five minutes of Senator Reid's statement.

And no, that wouldn't constitute misprision of a felony even if everything were illegal. In fact, the most common application of the doctrine of misprision of felony is when someone knows that a felony is being committed and chooses not to report it or do anything to prevent it. If indeed a millionaire paying zero in taxes, as Mitt apparently has done on more than one occasion (unless he wants to prove otherwise), were a felony, it would be a crime if Harry Reid did NOT report it.

(Not to mention that statements made on the floor of Congress are immune from prosecution anyway LOL.)

The aitch-eeh-double-hockeysticks he never said that.

Harry Reid was doing one of two things, and his spot on the floor of the Senate admit of no other interpretation:

    1. Misprision of a felony, or:

    2. Proposing an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder against Mitt Romney, or anyone else who can finish out a year with no tax liability.
  • ProudPr... Temlako... 2012/08/07 23:22:47

Please quote for me any statement Harry Reid has made that accuses Mitt Romney of doing anything illegal. He said he has been informed that it is possible that Mitt paid zero taxes in at least some of the years whose tax returns he refuses to release. He did not say that paying no taxes is illegal. He did not say that refusing to release his tax returns is illegal. He did not say that taking a $77,000 tax writeoff for your horse is illegal. He only said, as a majority of Americans agree, that Mitt should release his tax returns.

And also, please cite the proposed legislation you believe Harry Reid has introduced that affects Mitt Romney's tax returns in any way. (And by the way, if a proposed piece of legislation affects "anyone else" then it's not a bill of attainder. A bill of attainder is a bill designed to affect one specific target, like when the Republicans defunded Acorn over James O'Keefe's and Andrew Breitbart's proven lies against them.)
