As much as people would like to and do believe that he doesnt have a chance, its not over yet!
according to the R.N.C. rules, because the campaign and the RNC violated their own rules rule 11 specifically, all delegates from states where they were aportioned after the date May 1, 2012 are not validated delegates for Romney, because of their own rules. Meaning, that all delegates now accumulated are not really affirmed. http://www.change.org/petitio...

If the delegates decide to have some balls and vote their conscience sure Ron Paul can win. The delegates are free agents to vote however they wish. Don't let any of the tricks get in the way made by party higher ups and lawyers. We can beat them at their own game by duping the Mitt Mafia!

Is it possible? Yes, as most of the delegates can vote for anyone they wish at the convention. If a majority of them are Paul supporters (1144) then he can win.

Is it probable? No, as most of the popular votes went to Romney and the delegate count is vastly higher for him than for Paul.

That being said, I will still support Paul through the convention so that the party establishment gets the message that the libertarian element of the GOP is the future of the party rather than the recent social conservative past. This parliamentary approach is what made the religious social conservatives powerful in the party and we would like to again make the GOP the party of individual liberty rather than "liberty so long as our particular reading of this particular holy book says so".

Kennedy did the same as Ron Paul and he won at the convention. Depends on the second vote and if the Romney delagates change after the first vote. If I am not correct please explain.

All that has to happen is for the delegates to realize that if they make Romney the nominee they lose in November. If they are honest with themselves and the ridiculous GOP mantra of "Anyone But Obama", they will back the only chance they have to win, that being Ron Paul.

However, I don't expect this to happen. Most delegates are local level GOP shills who will absolutely do the bidding of the RNC, who will push Romney to their demise. Why? Because they would certainly prefer Obama to Ron Paul. If you don't understand why, then you need to do your homework on these candidates.

Only to those (like yourself) who don't know the reason behind his vote.

Ron Paul's Statement on HR 3541
Mr. Speaker, as an Ob-GYN who has delivered over 4,000 babies, I certainly abhor abortion. And I certainly share my colleagues’ revulsion at the idea that someone would take an innocent unborn life because they prefer to have a child of a different sex.

However, I cannot support HR 3541, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, because this bill is unconstitutional. Congress’s jurisdiction is limited to those areas specified in the Constitution. Nowhere in that document is Congress given any authority to address abortion in any manner. Until 1973, when the Supreme Court usurped the authority of the states in the Roe V. Wade decision, no one believed or argued abortion was a federal issue.

I also cannot support HR 3541 because it creates yet another set of federal criminal laws, even though the Constitution lists only three federal crimes: piracy, treason, and counterfeiting. All other criminal matters are expressly left to states under the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, and criminal laws relating to abortion certainly should be legislated by states rather than Congress.

I have long believed that abortion opponents make a mistake by spending their energies on a futile quest to make abort...

All other criminal matters are expressly left to states under the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, and criminal laws relating to abortion certainly should be legislated by states rather than Congress.

I have long believed that abortion opponents make a mistake by spending their energies on a futile quest to make abortion a federal crime. Instead, pro-life Americans should work to undo Roe V. Wade and give the power to restrict abortion back to the states and the people. It is particularly disappointing to see members supporting this bill who rightfully oppose ludicrous interpretations of the Commerce Clause when it comes to the national health care law, which also abuses the Commerce Clause to create new federal crimes.

Pro-life Americans believe all unborn life is precious and should be protected. Therefore we should be troubled by legislation that singles out abortions motivated by a “politically incorrect” reason for special federal punishment. To my conservative colleagues who support this bill: what is the difference in principle between a federal law prohibiting “sex selection” abortions and federal hate crimes laws? After all, hate crime laws also criminalize thoughts by imposing additional stronger penalties when a crime is motivated by the perpetrator’s animus toward a particular race or sex.

I also question whether this bill would reduce the number of abortions. I fear instead that every abortion provider in the nation would simply place a sign in their waiting room saying “It is a violation of federal law to perform an abortion because of the fetus’ sex. Here is a list of reasons for which abortion is permissible under federal law.”

Mr. Speaker, instead of spending time on this unconstitutionally, ineffective, and philosophically flawed bill, Congress should use its valid authority to limit the jurisdiction of activist federal courts and (thereby) protect state laws restoring abortion. This is the constitutional approach to effectively repealing Roe V. Wade. Instead of focusing on gimmicks and piecemeal approaches, true conservatives should address the horror of abortion via the most immediate, practical, and effective manner possible: returning jurisdiction over abortion to the states.

Ron Paul's vote aside (which was well explained by rdmatheny), the idea that a low should be in place to prohibit gender based abortion is ridiculous! If abortion is legal it makes no difference WHY you decide to have one. The choice is yours.

The entire argument here is just like a Seinfeld episode where he wants to return a sport jacket he bought for "spite". The clerk says you can't return it for THAT reason, when if he had just said he didn't like it they would have taken it back.

The issue is pointless, because if they actually passed this ridiculous law, anyone who wanted an abortion based on gender would simply not say that was the reason.

his tricks just might work - and I hope they do but ..... I got this letter from ron paul today

    Dear james,

I wanted you to get an update from me personally, since we have some great news!

Due to the smart planning of our campaign and the hard work and diligence of supporters like you, we stand to send nearly 200 bound delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa. This number shatters the predictions of the pundits and talking heads and shows the seriousness of our movement.

What's more, we will send several hundred additional supporters to Tampa who, while bound to Romney, believe in our ideas of liberty, constitutional government, and a common-sense foreign policy.

When it is all said and done, we will likely have as many as 500 supporters as delegates on the Convention floor. That is just over 20 percent!

And while this total is not enough to win the nomination, it puts us in a tremendous position to grow our movement and shape the future of the GOP!

I hope every one of you continues the fight we have advanced so well this year. I hope you will finish your local and state conventions, and, if you were selected as a national delegate, that you will head to Tampa in August to force the Republican Party to listen to the voice of liberty.

We have never had this kind of opportunity. There will be hundreds of your fellow supporters in Tampa who will be ready and willing to push the Republican Party back to its limited government, liberty roots.

There are many issues to fight for in Tampa. Also, candidates like Justin Amash, Kurt Bills, and Thomas Massie need your support as we move into the fall. Across the country, supporters of liberty have won local office and leadership positions in the GOP, and we need to keep working.

Our delegates’ presence must be felt both in Tampa and in years to come.

Stand up for what we believe in. Be respectful. And let the establishment know that we are the future of the Party and of the country.

Our Revolution is just getting started. You'll be hearing plenty from me as we approach Tampa and the fall elections. You'll also be hearing of important developments on Audit the Fed and Campaign for Liberty.

I hope you'll continue to stand with me as we go forward. Our Revolution could not have come this far without you

The sad part is that the Anti-Constitutionalists out number the Pro-Constitutionalists. It's a good thing the founding fathers had the foresight to form our nation as a Representative Republic and not a Democracy.

That "Republic" thing doesn't ring many bells, I'm afraid. I believe the Founders did good things and did their level best, but the Constitutional Convention was overwhelmed with way too many participants throwing things into the mix, so that today it no longer protects the citizens.

    Here you go.

In a democracy, the will of the majority is the law. Fifty-one percent of the vote empowers the winners to exercise any power they wish. Not so in a republic. The reason the founders constructed a constitutional republic was to protect Americans from democracy.

That may sound like sacrilege to most 21st century Americans, but it’s true. James Madison called democracy “the most vile form of government.” Thomas Jefferson said that when majorities oppress an individual they “break up the foundations of society.” Benjamin Franklin mused that democracy was like “two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.”

Republicanism is the logical form of government for conservatives. Conservatism at its best protects property rights from an unchecked majority plundering the individual. Liberalism at its best protects property rights from the wealthy conspiring with the government to plunder the masses. At their worst, both conservatism and liberalism legitimize plunder; the former for the few, the latter for the many. http://communities.washington...

Thank you; that's good and I'll follow up your link.. It's not so much that I didn't know, but it is that the people generally know far less, and again the Constitution says little and seems an inadequate source, so only a handful are really into that much digging. We can all see (except that horrid bunch which always wears blinders) that Ben Franklin had it right. We may BE a republic, but it's sure not how things are done today. The majority rules, so screw the minority. It's a long ride back to the haymow.
