About the only bill that got 60 Senate votes as required. On December 23, 2009 the Senate voted 60–39 to end debate on the bill, eliminating the possibility of a filibuster by opponents. The bill then passed by a party-line vote of 60–39 on December 24, 2009, with one senator (Jim Bunning) not voting.

On January 19, 2010, Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown was elected to the Senate, having campaigned on giving the Republican minority the 41st vote needed to sustain a filibuster, even famously signing autographs as "Scott 41. Since then it has been impossible for any Democratic bill to pass with a filibuster.

Me too, A2J. She will bust some chops in the Senate. The reason the GOP wants to get rid of Dodd-Frank is so they can also get rid of the CFPB for the banks. She was telling that to Al Sharpton on his program a couple days ago.

Tommy, I'm telling you the truth. Why do you think the Student Loan legislation became part of the Affordable Care Act? Because it was a budgetary amendment that was tacked on. That is HOW the act got to win by a simple majority vote instead of the 60 vote super majority required for everything else.

Yes, President Obama can build the economy! He has the strategies, the policies, the intelligent, and the tools, all he needed is Congress to act. Republicans are the ones that have stagnant the economy, and stop it from moving faster in higher growth, and prosperity.
