If you're on Facebook and previously refused to set up an @facebook.com email address, it was to no avail. The social network just rolled out email addresses for every single user. Fortunately, it's not connected to your external email in any way. However, according to PC Mag, some users have reported that the address is available to the public by default.

Facebook hopes the new system will protect user privacy by replacing external email addresses and replacing them with the @facebook address. Ultimately, it's just an extension of Facebook messages, but it's establishing a basis for something that could extend outside of the social network. Do you think Facebook could make it as an email provider, or should they stick to social networking? Facebook is leading the public down a path that will insure Facebook controls everything that happens on the internet, and by that time, it will be too late for a change. I think Facebook is intrinsically evil and self serving. Yet people keep following this crazy fad despite the multiple cases of revealed passwords, hacked accounts and "targeted ads". No Big Brother watching you, is there?

I doubt it. Most people already have perfectly working Emails anyways. Why would anyone need another? I don't see this happening.

No, (and even though I have a fb I barely get on it and don't understand why kids my age even like it.) They should stick to social networking which is what its intended for, and keep off Email!

I would never trust Facebook for my primary electronic communication. I don't trust them that much. It's a little better than myspace, but it's gotten a big head. I don't trust FaceBook.

Many people are getting sick of all the changes and the always changing privacy policies and layouts. Pretty soon Facebook will be like MySpace, unpopular and not used except by those that it's really the only way to stay in touch with family that is all across the country and world.

Facebook is infamous for collecting more data than it should and to some it has earned the title "Face Crook". I believe there have even been several situations where Facebook uploaded information from your phone's contact list if you visited facebook with it which is a severe privacy breach. Knowing that why the hell would anyone trust them as an email provider?

I am getting somewhat disturbed that SodaHead seems to have turned into a tinny sounding board for facebook business concepts.

To answer the question at hand: I wouldn't trust facebook with material any more sensitive than funny pics of cats or youtube links. I would be as likely to use email from @cia or @homelandsecurity - ie. a snowball's chance in hell.

FB is a joke ! They are already on the down hill slide ...Zooky should have kept his political views to himself and not changed the the site to try and help reelect his buddy ! Like all ultra-liberal MEDIA facebook has had to take steps to keep people from talking and this pisses off anyone with a brain ...nothing FB does will help them now they are toast!
