It's also not homophobic... it's just hate.

How does a gay marriage impact the lives of anyone outside the gay couple?

Obviously looking at the CHICK-FIL-A historic turnout milions feel otherwise.
33 states voted on the Gay Marriage issue and 33 states voted it down. America does not support same sex marriage------Too bad, so sad

lol I'm blocked by wolfshadow already and don't even know them. Apparently he doesn't really want an answer to how a gay marriage impacts the lives of anyone outside the gay couple. Typical; their way or the highway, and call anyone that disagrees a hater or bigot.

Remember when the states prevented interracial marriage? Just because biggots come out together in droves doesn't make it right.

I have gay friends and gay family members whom I love and accept for who they are. I feel that they should have the right to join their lives and make their significant other their legal next of kin. However the term married is reserved for the union between a man and a woman.

I have no problem with civil unions for all, which people could then follow up with a wedding if their denomination permits it. I don't think "marriage" should be redefined by the government. It opens doors that I think none of us (gay people included) would want opened (polygamy, marriage between siblings, etc.).

Absolutely 'YES' they can!!! I am one of those people but whenever another SH asks about same sex 'marriage' I'm accused of being homophobic and it really is getting tiresome enough for me not to comment on those questions any more..

with you there. However, I have no problem with gay people. I know gay people and they are good people; but, for a society/government to advocate for the gay community I think this is counterproductive and not a liklihood in the longrun, as it is not a life sustaining condition. That said, the % of gay people is small enough and the natural tendency is towards heterosexuality, therefore, I'm not too concerned and in Canada, gay marriage is legalized.... Who knows where propaganda, advocacy, and advertising can lead, thus I'm not too ok with the loudness of the gay movement...keep it down, and I'll be happy. Ask a gay person if it is ok to be gay....I wonder their reply.

Too right about keeping it down. I hate all the marches etc. publicising homosexuality. A persons sexuality should remain private (imho) and not shouted out in the streets whilst waving banners and things.

I also find it quite intimidating. Fortunately I live in the countryside so we don't get marches. All we ever get making a noise outside is Santa with his sleigh and his helpers playing loud Christmas Carols, giving sweets to children and collecting for charity. Naturally we all go out to throw money in his buckets. :-)

It's possible. Disagreeing on the definition of marriage and it's role in society doesn't make one very hateful of same sex couples alone, however I've noticed many who claim to be tolerant of gay people and against same sex marriage don't very much act like it.

I've heard many say they don't have a problem with gay people, then continue to mock them, degrade them, insult them, and say that they don't want them to be open about it and prefer not to have to be around any gay people and constantly defend the assaults towards gay people using the "victim blaming" tactic (They brought it on themselves, they weren't careful enough, they made the choice and now need to face the consequences etc.). But of course they are not homophobic and are open-minded understanding individuals.

Yes. I have no problem with gays. If it were just a matter of individuals that want to marry the same sex I am fine. Unfortunately it is more than that. It is a whole movement. It is tied in with a bigger agenda. That is what I am against.

What's the bigger agenda? I've heard that a lot, but no one's yet to really explain to me what it is. It seems all to mysterious and conspiracy theory like.

    Literalism?

That was probably some auto-correct typo, liberalism?

Okay, but what is the main ideal behind this agenda? What do they want to do to society?

And is legal same sex marriage directly linked to it or is there just some correlation? Because most people that I know that want same sex marriage legalized are just normal people who think it's legally the fair thing to do. Not everyone agrees due to various reasons, but I haven't met anyone who wanted same sex marriage legalized for different motive.

Of course, in a democratic system it should be up to people to vote.

I'm just wondering what the 'agenda' part of it is, apart from some people having a change of ideals and believing that it should be legalized.

In the past even more states would have voted it down, society is constantly changing and developing, often at a rapid pace. Where I'm from 10 years ago same sex marriage would've been considered absurd by most of the nation too, yet now we will apparently have same sex marriage within the next 5 years (It's already been put into legalization).

In my personal opinion, legally it's a harmless adaptation to society and I can see why others would disagree and am quite understanding of the other point of view too, but I still don't think there is anything more behind it. Of course liberals tend to be the most supportive of it so often it seems as if other liberal policies automatically have to follow, but to be honest there should be no connection between the two, it's just the illusion you get from a two party system.
