California continues to spend money it doesn't have. Politicians have played a balancing act with public services. Governor Jerry Brown (D-CA) continues to spend more money on California's high-speed rail program: AP Reports:
California lawmakers gave the green light to start building the nation's first dedicated high-speed rail line, a multibillion dollar project that will eventually link Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that California's largest community college may close due to lack of funding: SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California's largest community college, the City College of San Francisco, will be forced to close next year if it fails to address a raft of longstanding problems that the school blames on state budget cuts.

The cost of the guardrail repair in Jacksonville is a good example of how projects like these get out of hand and end up costing more than planned.

If our state is going bankrupt then building high speed transportation then maybe we need to find a way to do this without the state becoming so poor.

I chose education but could have used another option. First of all not all of us here in California are as reckless as our legislatures…just the majority who vote I guess.

This comes from uneducated voters who refuse to clean house in Sacramento.

The same voter’s who allow the State to borrow more money for bogus projects like high speed rail while we are broke and who would put a retread in office looking to leave a legacy with nothing to lose, except to completely bankrupt the state.

These are the same voters who will piss and moan about funding cuts but ask the same people who are manipulating the system to fix it. We brought it on ourselves.

None of the above. WATER PROJECTS! Education could be fixed with very little money. Change the curriculum, enforce the immigration laws. Go back to what has worked in the past.

Jerry Brown will have to hold bake sales, to raise money. What ever happened to Linda Ronstadt? "You're no good, you're no good, you're no good, baby you're no good." Did you know that Jerry Brown's father defeated Richard Nixon, then in return was defeated by Ronald Reagan.

Is EVERY politician in California smoking medical marijuana? I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this story today. California's even more bankrupt than the USA (if that's even possible), and they're building high speed rail when police, firemen(women), teachers, public services, etc., are being cut back and whole cities are declaring bankruptcy, it's just too bizarre for words to be building fast trains.

Do you think that the politicians who okayed the first part of the high speed rail gimmick are counting on the people who will benefit most from the project (unions) getting their rank and file to support the politicians who support the train? Gee!

High Speed Rail is Education in action. Congratulations to Governor Brown. And you guys are going to need me. I have invented a new Electricity Machine, that is nonstop, electrical production, 24 hours a day, non-polluting, non-nuclear, better than solar and wind.

This is the beginning to have a connected speed rail line that connects all the countries in the world. Only the Southern Countries such as Australia and Indonesia will not have the world connection.

Students can travel to any school in the world they want for class. They don't have to be bored with one campus for however long they stay in College. Universities will join to each other, and business will thrive, not only from Speed Train routes but on the Speed Trains themselves.

    http://www.sodahead.com/unite...

Speed Trains can carry Freight from countries all over the world. It will reduce the Diesel pollution in the air.

We can have a Speed Train, McDonald's Restaurant, or Emergency Hospital Response Train.

    http://www.sodahead.com/unite...

Now if we can get this job project going as well, we will have so many jobs, that we won't have enough people to fill them. This project is exciting as well. Create a New Country anyone? Here it is: The Sea of Opportunity.

Lighten up guy. Do you want jobs, good environment? or traffic jams, and pollution? Do you want austerity, or growth? Of course both, but we just can't do nothing. If we can get California to start up the Speed Train Revolution, it can grow into a major new Employment Organization in the world. Europe can be connected to the USA, along with Asia. Remember that bridge they said went no where in Alaska? That bridge will connect Russia to the US, and Asia, and Japan making a new Vibrant Speed Train Economy. Broaden your vision, think positive, and we can overcome our Economic Problems. I am here.

Star Trek isn't real dude. If it was we wouldn't need airliners to crash into World Trade Buildings. We wouldn't have TSA agents feeling us up at the airports. We wouldn't need guns, nullifying your beloved Constitution, and we wouldn't need to be like Romulins invading other countries around the world.

Absolutely ridiculous. Get your budget under control California! You have SOOO many RICH people living there- YOU should be the pilot program for Obamacare & these other plans! Tax YOUR WEALTHY. If it helps your economy & saves your programs, then we'll know it works. Since it hasn't worked, we'll assume you're the example of why Obama's plans WILL NOT WORK. Scott Walker (Wi) illustrates what will work. This isn't the 90's. No tech stock & Internet booms to achieve what you are being told will happen under Obama. His OWN advisor, the head of GE moved operations for their X-ray division to China- the writing is on the wall. Do some market research!!! Watch "Shark Tank"- get a reality check.

We've cut unemployment a lot more then Scott Walker did and he probably wouldn't be running a state with slightly declining unemployment if it wasn't for the auto bailout. Thank Obama for any growth Wisconsin has.

Michigan is the auto bailout genius. Thank tax payers and managed bankruptcy for the save- pretty much the same thing Scott Walker did. ALL Obama did was fund GM until the managed Bankruptcy could make the GM Unions see if they didn't give in, they'd loose everything. If they had refused to compromise- like Wisconsin Unions did, GM would have gone under. Obama had NOTHING to do with that. The Unions were FORCED to give up. Then what happened? GM HAD IT's biggest profit year! Funny how you wanna praise Obama for essentially what Scott Walker did. Obama did nothing, except waste tax dollars instead of demanding the managed bankruptcy from the get go. That is what Mitt suggested. Sorry that you're wrong.
  • sbtbill Snowball 2012/07/10 22:54:11
    sbtbill
Obama funded the bankruptcy. Mitt wanted private business to fund when private business had no money, the banks had no money, and pretty much everyone besides the government had no money. Mitt's idea would have worked about as well as deciding to stay on the Titanic.
  • Snowball sbtbill 2012/07/11 01:41:54 (edited)
    Snowball
NO, WE FUNDED THE BANKRUPTCY! You're a goof- what ended up happening is what Mitt suggested in the first place- MANAGED BANKRUPTCY. It just would have happened quicker, and with no tax payer $ wasted to keep them floating while the unions fought to save their perks. Recently each GM employee got a $7,000 bonus- BEFORE WE HAVE EVEN BEEN PAID BACK! Thank Obama for making that possible.

Rail travel evolved differently here in the US. It's not like Europe because it runs past the back side of everything. Site seeing it dismal and unkept. Rail here will never work, never has. I don't care how fast it goes.

BTW do we have a transportation problem. Even the poorest people have a car.

It's too late. We are a driving nation. We enjoy the freedom to hop in a car and go. We have had Amtrak and it never makes a penny and runs as another failed attempt by government.
