Apologize? I didn't see that as any such thing. More like "I'm sorry I was so blatant in voicing what the entire Extreme Right of the Party believes, and right before the convention too."
I'm sure that he's sorry that he said it, because thanks to his comment it cast a big spotlight on Paul Ryan as well, which Ryan has now modified, from a no abortion under any circumstances stance to exceptions for rape and incest. So for that,"Thanks Todd!"
But... an apology from somone who could make the original statement isn't what's needed. He needs re-education on the meaning of rape and the basic fact that the victim of ANY crime deserves help, not further persecution.
It's like forgiving and forgetting. He can be forgiven for exposing his ignorance and bias against women, but women shouldn't forget and should hold him accountable.
I hope the Missouri voters make him sorry he opened his mouth.
Dems have said worse as well as other repubs. This is just a case of back peddeling. It has been said and can't be unsaid. He knows better than trying to appease dems or anyone else who was insulted by his stupidity.
He also has forgotten, or mayb is too stupid to realize that dems are like attack dogs, only they go after little things as well as the big. If they can't find the big, they make it up. got to love lame stream media, they have created a lot of Sheeple who willing believe everything they hear, and repeat it over and over again.
But, in this case, what this idiot said cannot be explained away, he said what he did and now is looking for a way out. I hope he doesn't find it.
He is sorry he said something unpopular, but to a large extent I think he doesn't even understand WHAT was unpopular. Granted, his medical knowledge is shameful. But the real problem is that he somehow considers "legitimate rape" to be a reasonable phrase.
Do conservatives really believe that rape based on threats or intimidation rather than violence are not really rape? Do conservatives consider things like "date rape" drugs to be merely something a woman should accept and get over?
I think this forces the "war on women" concept to the foreground. What is it that conservatives stand for? Clearly, with the GOP putting forth a platform of no abortion for any reason (not even rape or incest), they have clarified part of it. I hope they clarify further.
Paul Ryan recently said "Rape is just another form of conception." If I were Romney, I'd be wondering why I chose the guy as my running mate -- and running around the convention seeing if there's any way to get out of it. :)
Ryan was a gamble -- but Romney needed to gamble. As a shrewd businessman, he could see the projections and understand that he'd lose unless he fired up his base.
Clearly, Ryan is charismatic and intelligent. Romney is hoping that is enough to keep independents from leaving in droves.
The real problem is the platform, not Ryan. The public doesn't really care what the VP has done, just that he's competent (and he clearly is, even if you and I disagree vehemently with his policy decisions).
The platform, on the other hand, is designed to excite the base *at the expense* of moderates and independents. That is a problem, because it gives serious ammunition to the democrats -- something they don't need.
Right now, Romney is riding a wave -- getting a boost from Ryan and from a few things going on right now. He may well get my home state of Wisconsin (because of Ryan and because of voter suppression laws) -- but his real concern should be Florida with its senior citizens and strong connection to AARP. Losing Florida and Ohio (both projected to go barely Republican, before the VP pick) would more than offset the gain of Wisconsin.
But :: He is a politician - - he will say what he needs to say to get elected.
The only thing he did, was tell the truth - - of course, Politicians should NEVER tell the truth! Especially Republican Politicians, because liberals do NOT want to hear the true views of race, sex and religion from a Republican.
It doesn't change the way he feels, nor does Ryan's ...um..."separation" from him change HIS "spots". Ryan and Akin have ALWAYS been hand in hand on this subject so what Ryan is saying is also just another, in a LOONG string, of conservative lies!
In the last month THEY have outpaced Obama by at least 17 to 0 on lies.
I am sure Akin did not mean to offend women or anyone nor did he attempt to diminish the seriousness of rape but his thinking is way off. He clings to fringe extreme religious viewpoints and his comments are based on the statements of a particular doctors who has influenced him.
I too am opposed to abortion in most cases except rape and incest and would only condone abortion if it was done right away. Abortion, especially late term abortion is barbaric, it assaults the sanctity of life and is morally wrong. I am opposed to late term abortions across the board since it is outright murder and the fetus is capable is reeling extreme pain. That's all I'm going to say about that.
People knew what Akin's views were going into the primary as he has been in Missouri politics for some time now. What he said was pointless and regardless if he was sorry, a politician needs to be better than this and watch what they say or get out of the way. He should have stepped down and it is obvious he does view this as being about him contrary to what he says.
On the flip side the Left and the Democrats are making yet another mountain out of a foothill and using this to divert the voters' short attention span away from the real issues at hand which are the overall poor economic health of America...

This has been the tactic of the Democrats from the get go. Let's go after a man's tax records and stance on student loans. This should really tell people what a miserable handle the Obama administration has on things.
Claire McCaskill, a woman, an Obama puppet and my other dismal choice for US Senate, is essentially supporting Akin and thinks he should stay in simply because she has a better chance of beating him. Before his bonehead statement, McCaskill's chances were near zero and if John Brunner had gotten the win she would be all but done at this point. McCaskill's stance is almost every bit as bad as Akin's remarks but the Leftist media has barely touched on it.
Way past time for a third party to ascend to power folks.
Foot in mouth disease, dirty politics .... both sides are guilty of this at one time or another. To use this incident to gain numbers in politics is just as dispicable.

I don't understand why they don't want Akin to come to the Convention when they so clearly agree with him!
