Bush Condemns Russia for Invading Georgia: Is he a hypocrite?

Stacy August 11, 2008 17:54:03

"I've expressed my grave concern about the disproportionate response of Russia and that we strongly condemn the bombing outside of South Ossetia," Bush told NBC Sports.

Putin criticized the United States for viewing Georgia as the victim, instead of the aggressor, and for airlifting Georgian troops back home from Iraq on Sunday.

"Of course, Saddam Hussein ought to have been hanged for destroying several Shiite villages," Putin said in Moscow. "And the incumbent Georgian leaders who razed ten Ossetian villages at once, who ran elderly people and children with tanks, who burned civilian alive in their sheds — these leaders must be taken under protection."

The Georgian president, Saakashvili, voiced concern that Russia's true goal was to undermine his pro-Western government, which has sharply angered Moscow by wanting to join NATO. "It's all about the independence and democracy of Georgia," he said during a conference call.

What do you guys think? Does this make Bush a hypocrite?

Many of you are all tied up in the Bush bashing that can't see what is going on. If this battle grows and it could it may involve most of eastern Europe. Which would bring NATO in to play and if that happens we are in play. Open your eyes and clear your hate, your bias is dominating you!!!

"Screw the goddamn Russians !" George S Patton (1945). My thoughts exactly. Putin is 10X the asshole Bush is. And besides, Bush is OUR asshole ... meaning he's a prick to anyone who could do US harm ... such as Saddam The Ultimate Throbbing Member Hussein. Russia had no right to unilaterally invade a neighbor. Their ultimate goal was to secure the Caspian - Black Sea oil pipeline ... to damage the West. I say make Georgia a NATO ally and the next time Putin crosses the line, nuke him and his Kremlin buddies back into the stone age !

Is this a serious question? Iraq was invaded due to the thoughts that they may seriously have a nuclear weapon which by the way, would NOT be good news for the rest of the world. Georgia was invaded because Russia ia being a bully and wants to take them back over.
    Big difference there.

We found over 1,000,000 pound of Uranium in Iraq. It ultimately was eventually sold to Canada after we took over but it's really strange how you would never had known watching/reading the main stream media.

wake up people, stop blaming Bush for everything. If you would take a step back and look at the big picture, you would see that you and all of the other kool-aid drinkers are getting your informationand political view from the liberal left wing media. I mean come on people, all the millions of problems you blame bush for, there is notr another soul on Earth that is capible of doing damage. It like the bible says, ye who has not sinned, cast the first stone. If these claims against Bush are true, He would have been killed by all of you kool-aid drinkers. Because you, like all liberals, believe only he is responsible for all of the troubles in our world

JJ MAG, yes I agree. But you see JJ MAG, people who don't bother to do the research by themselves don't have any idea what is going on. They just listen to the liberal news media and believe what they hear. I did my research and the way I see it, everybody in this country "will" see and experience war soon. God help us all. And if the dems and other liberals, as well as some "deceived Christians", think that Obama is a "savior" they are sadly mistaken. Not even Obama will be able to stop the war that is coming to this country. And your are right JJ MAG, it is not all Bush's fault what has happened with the economy and with the invading of Iraq to remove Sadaam. He was an evil dictator who was just as bad as Hitler. As I said, God help us all.

Well, Russia certainly did not need to prove to the rest of the world that it can brutalize a small country's army trained by the U.S military. Yet, we should not forget that Georgia attacked first without no real warning, knowing that there were Russian citizens living in that territory. So what did diSaakashvi think?....That those christians (orthodox) will simply turn the other cheek? Im no fan of Putin but the man is definitely no boy scout...

Lets not forget that Russia is experiencing an economic boom/ expansion so it is not in their interest to be at war. Prime Minister Putin announced a doubling of the minimum wage next year so a war will certainly be a distraction. The U.S is winning the political game.

worldinmypalm, you said "Well, Russia certainly did not need to prove to the rest of the world that it can brutalize a small country's army trained by the U.S military". Well, guess what? Maybe they did do it for this reason. They are flexing their muscles and saying "don't mess with us".

Chris 91, ....Land is about to be even more important. The population is growing and people need to be fed. My guess is whoever has lots of land in the next 20 years, whether it is to extract resources or to cultivate food or for housing, will be very wealthy. Think about this, the Roman empire once tried to conquer the world in order to establish one leadership (Rome) and one world culture influenced by Roman lifestyle. Well, history often repeats itself.

Putin is a liar. Bush did have the international community agreeing with him and his intelligence regarding Iraq, just not there agreement on a time of attack. Also, even the Dems., sided with Bush on the invasion of Iraq.

Russia saw an opportunity to attack and took it. That is why the world is condemning the attack.

No CoMBat, if you have every served in the military you know that if you look the other way when a dictator is trying to take over because of his evil lust for land and for power, then this "enemy" will gather strength and will came after other countries to invade and he will keep on going if he isn't stopped. So us going after Sadaam is not the same thing as what Russia did to Georgia. Sadaam was an evil dictator with a lust for power and blood. Georgia attacked first, Russia responded. Supposedly, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabian citizens attacked us first and we responded by attacking the Afs and Iraq (take over by dick tator). If there are any countries who opened the door for an invasion due to regional or international safety concerns it is Iran and North Korea and a possible third country is... US/ISRAEL. Funny how that looks like us. Anyone serving in the US military since the Civil War served as a soldier for American fortune; not American freedoms. Do your research a little better and remove the patriot stick from your anus. You are blocking the airway to your brain. The 1% (dick tators; half are conservatives) get wealthier and you keep playing the schmuck.

I can't believe Bush having the nerve to talk about invading soverign nations. Maybe he forgot his invasion of Iraq for WMD (well no), protect America (well, no), how about Saddam's a bad guy who tried to kill my dad (since when was the U.S. military the play toy of a dictator who declares war for personal reasons?), al qaeda (nope), how about war on terror (oh, c'mon, that's in another country bozo). He thinks we're too stupid to know the real reason. Say it loud; say it proud -- it'a all about OIL!! Putin thinks this guy is a low grade moron and thorough liar. disproportionate responce is not a topic the US has ANY moral high ground.

By this logic if Russia got Mexifornia to claim independence and attacked the USA the USA would be the villan?

What authority does the usa have going around nation building for big oil?
In Georgia as Iraq and others it was the ol' set up the US Dictator Trick. Then the bullies on the schoolyard (NATO) pick out a victim to pilfer, riches to be divided. US commanded Nato troops to ATTTACK RUSSIA! Russia responded. Sadam was tried and held accountable for crimes against humanity etc. Who ever set up this Non Georgia leader and attacked Russia should be entitled to the same justice. Incidentally all this sticking our US nose were it does not belong historically has not worked out for the people we were "helping" . The taxpayer pays for the venture and politician’s puppet masters get filthy rich. If we had a conflict we need a Patton not a General that sits in an air conditioned tent eating lobster while our troops die. Blackwater is paid more than our troops. Meanwhile we are in a country bigger than Texas for years trillions in debt. The rich love it and are not about to leave. The media has done a masterful job brainwashing the US population.
