Yes it is very good news,but our society should step back and take a look at the fact that closing mental hospitals and institutions which in turn throws these people to the streets is not an excuse to condemn the mentally ill for their actions.Not to mention the fact that most of this mentally ill man's neighbors??,(Funny Word) knew of his mental problems, turned a deaf ear and eye because who knows why. and then this sort of thing happened.Is this out of the Bible when Cain said to God (Am I my Brother's Keeper??)

I'm sorry for the man though -- apparently he took good care of the boy. I hope he died because it was the only way, not because he was murdered while trying to surrender or something.

The trouble is the police can't do much about complaints -- arrest him for a night for something, maybe he goes before a judge and pays a fine, maybe not. The police can't order a psych eval, and a judge won't unless the evidence is pretty strong (I don't think acting weird and not having friends is good enough).

From the reports I heard and saw this man had beaten a neighbors dog to death almost decapitating it and had pointed his gun from his yard to neighbors and visitors. The police said there was not enough witnesses! And I agree with you where can you start. I feel bad for his neighbors being helpless and living with this ticking time bomb.

Sounds like the Islamic "rule" that a woman has to have 4 witnesses to "prove" she was raped. Catch-22's everywhere.

I feel bad for his neighbors too -- but most sorry for the family of the bus driver he killed for trying to protect the children. He kind of got lost in all the hype about the kidnapped child (who sounds as though, true to the resilience of children, he's doing well, thank goodness).

Yes I am grateful too for his safety! I know we were all on pins and needles praying for his safe release. And yes that bus driver was a real hero and I look forward to hearing more about this fantastic human being.

It was unclear how he was killed? Hmmm I bet he didn't get killed by a hit and run driver. So my best guess is he died from a gunshot wound.

I'm glad the ordeal is finally over, and the boy is alive and safe.

I hope that boy gets all the help he needs. He will need some perhaps not much, perhaps a lot.

First reports sounded very good. If the man took care of him, which he claimed he was, the boy might have been mostly confused but not scared. That would be great.
