Boston law firm hiring full-time attorney for $10K a year, and has had 30 applicants vying for the job so far! Is this a sign that the law-of-supply-and-demand has finally recognized the true worth of lawyers, or does it prove how weak our economy is?

Like every other profession, good attorneys are worth a high price. You get what you pay for in life.

I can't believe that a law firm would offer anyone a job that would pay less then minimum wage. Must not be a very well known law firm.

So many law school graduates need to take jobs in private industry and/ or in the public sector. The law firms are just not hiring and it is mainly due to the economy. The graduates want to be working with law firms, but they will have to settle for what they can get and hope for better days.

Also first step attorneys are like law clerks. They do much research but no handling of cases. So it is fair.

Benefits include malpractice insurance, health insurance, employer paid clothing allowance and an MBTA pass. While this doesn't make it $100,000 plus, it is a good start for someone other than "Hanging out their own shingle" which would include them having to pay rent, pay for library online, advertising, and all the other costs to maintain an office.

it's BOTH the weak economy... and worthless lawyers being churned out of law schools.

I could not bring up the report. But, to give my opinion, I think it is probably $10K a yr. plus most of the Revenue that you generate. I think that is the way that generally works.

There's no explanation why someone with an an advanced degree will only get paid $10K. If people will work for that, then they can offer it.

I believe that the law firm may be a well known high powered law firm. The number of applicants at the listed salary points to how difficult and rare it is to get a position in this firm.

    Actually it is BOTH ..
Supply and Demand is showing that this profession is definitely overbooked indeed ..
(well .. supply exceeds the demand)
and it also is showing how WEAK The economy is as well too ..
(for folks can't afford to hire attorneys .. even the bad ones .. for their legal papers either)

Now let's just say this ..
doesn't matter what you pay for the 'service' ..
at all ends of the pay spectrum indeed ..
you can pay a fortune .. or a little ..
there's NO GUARANTEE that the service will be worth anything ..

both.. too many lawyers, not enough positions for a flooded weak market. Just like english, art and history majors, not a lot of demand.

Back in the 90's we had a lawyer working at the autoparts store that I worked at. Even back then he couldn't find a job as a lawyer. He was making more than $10K a year.

A lawyer working for $10,000 a year, does the law firm provide a box to live in behind the firm with some homeless looking clothes so they can pan handle when they have no cases?

I think it's a sign there are too many college kids going to law school hoping to make big buck. Then they find out the competion is wicked.
