Black pastors group launches anti-Obama campaign around gay marriage

Washington (CNN) – A group of
conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama’s
support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national
campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming
support of the President, though the group’s leader is offering few
specifics about the effort.

The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the
Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign,
has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans.
He calls this campaign “an effort to save the family.”

Obama does not care. The blacks who worship the Chosen One will always vote for him and they outnumber his black detractors like Rev. Williams Owens. He'd soon throw them under the bus since he does not need their votes. Notice the MSM paid no attention to what Rev. Owens' comments whereas Mr. Cathy's comments created such a media backlash. You know the country is divided already.

Reiligious reasons prevent me from supporting gay marriage. Hate is wrong although there are politicians on both sides who make it seem ok to hate again thats wrong.

Unlike most conservatives I do believe in civil unions and am luke warm supportive of gay couples adopting kids. Ideally a child should have a mom and dad, but I am sure a gay couple is capable of loving a child.

MOST blacks will still mindlessly vote for Obama despite how bad their situation is and it will only get worse and worse in a second term. I am proud of this pastor and I am sure he will be called uncle tom and so forth.

To you self hating white people who still support obama. DO you want america to end up like detroit? That is what liberal ( and especially black) liberal policies do.

Detroit's decline was caused by the moving of white and black investors-notably Ford and Motown. Obama had nothing to do with this. You will probably now call me a Socialist, Commie, the n word etc.

We are entitled to our opinions and I might not agree with others but respect others even if I dont agree.

Look at any city with a 40% of above black population combined with liberal politics and you see the future of the usa. Back to detroit. In Michigan blacks are 14% of the population yet make up roughtly 50% of the welfare roles. No one seems to see any problem with that except evil white people keep people down.

Read Escape from Detroit. The book is racist, which I dont agree with yet you cant argue with the truth if it is.

Yes, people will always characterise blacks as welfare recipients. personally, I feel the President has not done enough to focus on getting black Americans back into jobs- amoung other demographics.
But this does not mean that black policies from anyone immediately spell the end for America, as good as that may sound.

Exactly its not black policies its liberal policies combined with a group of people ( black ) intentially kept down to be able to be controlled.

see most democrats ( in full disclosure I am a registered democrat but very to the right of the party) take the black vote for granted. Obama having the stance on gay marriage is an example. He knows that he never would have won last time, but also knows that since he is in office blacks will support him even though many disagree with him on issues. I am not black, but I think the mindset is "If we dont support him the racists will say they were right that a black man should have never been president". The problem is he is pandering instead of leading. There are people stupid enough to believe his defacto amnesty for illegals ( which will compete with more blacks than whites for jobs based on skill levels) is not to out latino the republicans. That is wrong.

If white and black moderates and conservatives get together this country will run smoothe. The problem is BOTH PARTIES can find ways to divide us every four years and the country just gets worse and worse.

1- You are right that Obama is pandering- that is what annoys me. But blacks asking for help from the Pres. is no different to whites, ot gays or women, although everyone wants to characterise this as laziness. Noone is saying blacks cannot help themselves- they NEED to. But Obama is not attentive.
2- You talk as if the whole black demographic of voters are stupid and naiive. They are not. Many are experienced voters who have simply no reason to belive that a Republican wil do anything for the black community. Yes, they may be wrong, but that does not make them stupid.
3- Politics should not be about white and black moderates and conservatives- just politicians.

Let me first say that I don't condon the willful abuse or purposefull mistreatment of person for taking a path in life that I disagree with. My best friends son just admitted to being a homosexual, my own cousin was one as well, and so was my wifes brother. I say was about the last two because that have both passed away due to AIDS.

My best friends son comes over to the house almost weekly, we now live in their former home so he comes over to visit and tend the plants in his garden, one that he has grown for years. I would never think to treat him any different now than I did before he came out.

Having said all of that, I don't agree with, nor can I condone the homosexual lifestyle, it runs in direct contrast to MY belief systems, while I can't abide the homosexual life neither can I (because of my belief system) judge and or show prejudice against them, because they are fellow human being and as such one of Gods creations just like me.

I too have made and will continue to make mistakes that I will one day have to make atonement for. They like wise will have to do the same, it doesn't make me better or them worse.....it just means that we are both sinners and must answer for all our life choices.

I hope that clears things up bit as to where I stand on the matter of homosexuality.

Thanks for listening and not reacting as some do here. It is not only refreshing, but more importantly, it is how we as nation should be dealing with the issues that seem to be deliberately engineered to divide us. Thoughtfull reasonable discussion held in truth will always lead not only better solutions to our issues and problems in this country, but ultimatley in the end it makes all of us a better people too.

Yesterdays (7/31) Gallop Poll shows Romney and Obama in a dead heat at 46% each. This could possibly be another 3-6% swing, even though I think the group’s efforts may convenice some not to vote at all, rather than swing to the Romney column. Either way, it does not play out well for Obama.
