Bill Press comments on OUR national anthem that he is…

“embarrassed ever time (he) hear(s) it.”

REALLY Bill?

So what would pass the Bill Press test?

I suppose one of these would fit your ideological
bent, eh?

And of course, they’re certainly easier to sing… and
probably in YOUR vocal range.

out Tyranny… EVERYtime, Bill!

Other national anthems seem to have a nicer melody as well as meaning. Take New Zealand for example:

Actually, I kind of like the National Anthem of Luxumberg.
And who could forget this pitched battle of musical ideology:

But it is to the last stanza of OUR national Anthem that always tugs at my sense of patriotism:

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Apparently Bill Press is embarrassed a lot!
From Tim Tebow and Bill Press: Religion in Sports Part 1 (POLL)
December 17, 2011 "In a move of tremendous class (sarcasm), liberal radio host and former CNN host Bill Press sent a message for Tim Tebow: “S-T-F-U” about Jesus (which stands for “shut the f**k up”) while speaking on his radio show about his dislike for Tebow’s “in-your face” Christian faith yesterday.

Press went on to say “…And you know what I want to say, S.T.F.U. I’m tired of hearing Tim Tebow and all this Jesus Talk,” Press said. ”He better be praying hard this week, because he’s up against a real quarterback on Sunday — against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Everybody wants to make him a hero. I think he’s a disgrace. I think he’s an embarrassment.”

The song is about Fort McHenry not surrendering to British forces during the War of 1812 while under attack by a large fleet. How is that not inspiring?

I have a different opinion, I don't feel strongly one way or another about the anthem because the anthem isn't whats important it's what the anthem stands for and I think it is a good question over whether the national anthem reflects us and what it means to be American anymore. I will be interested in hearing both sides of this argument before I say one side is more right than the other.

It took us over a century and a half to finally officially adopt this old English drinking song. I'm in favor of giving "The Star Spangled Banner" equal time. The tune really gets your attention and the lyrics are fantastic. Let's bring it to a vote in 2176.

Bill Press, what a piece of work he is. Rather than bloviating to a fellow leftist weasel on a liberal talk show, would Bill Press have the courage to bloviate the same crap, at a convention of Normandy Invasion or FDNY/NYPD 911 survivors; better yet, a local chapter of current and former Special Operations members from all branches of the US Military?

The rocket's red glare was during the War of 1812, as the British were bombarding Fort McHenry Being held against his will aboard the HMS Minden, all that Francis Scott Key could do is watch during the rainy night as the smaller storm flag, lit up by the bombardment, still flew over the fort. The following morning, the smaller flag was lowered, and the larger, 15-star, 15 stripe flag was raised. Only then did he know how the battle had turned out. He was inspired by the American victory, and the flag, which became known as "The Star-Spangled Banner", flying over the fort. The British ships provided the rockets red glare, and the bombs bursting in air. It was a VERY popular song, back then.

Perhaps, but the lyrics to our National Anthem (all four stanzas) better reflect our founding.

Read both Key's words AND the Declaration of Independence; they both strike the same chord.
