BILL O'REILLY AND BARACK OBAMA?

right this time August 10, 2009 13:40:38

Bill O'Reilly this past week wrote an article for Parade Magazine in which he praises Obama as an excellent model for children. Among the things he feels the President is teaching children are the following five lessons: Forgivness, Repect, Persistence, Hard Work and that we can make Our Dreams Come True because Anything In America is Possible. Is it possible that the extreme right is going to actually quit demonizing all things Barack or is this a calculated effort on Bill O'Reilly's part to look more "fair and balanced?"
O'Reilly has decided to separate himself a little bit from the wing nuts.
Bill'O The Clown is just up to his usual fun tricks.
O'Reilly is a wind bag but I do respect our President.
I don't care what O'Reilly says, Obama is a Muslim Christian Fascist Socialist Lying Liberal Communist Anti-American Terrorist.

Bill O"Reilly on occasion shows his independent streak. I don't know if it's because he is being sincere or just an attempt to be objective/no-spin, etc.

He's been very harsh on President Obama, but was conciliatory about Justice Sotomoyer when speaking with Geraldo Rivera. Can't help but wonder if that was more being deferential to a colleague.

O'Reilly has decided to separate himself a little bit from the wing nuts.

O'Reilly was giving a commentary that put aside the politics and focused on another aspect here. It's good to see news personalities capable of that.

O'Reilly has decided to separate himself a little bit from the wing nuts.

I think the right wing-nuts have gone so around the bend that perhaps even Bill O'Reilly wants to separate himself a little. The "birthers" leader is a genuine nut case, forever immortalized in a hilarious skit on Comedy Central. Sarah Palin lies that President Obama has a "death panel, then the next day she pleads for civil discourse. Maybe it's all gotten to be a bit too much for even Bill O'Reilly. I read the article in which he praises President Obama for overcoming hardship and working hard for all he achieved.

You may be right. I keep wondering though about the damage that the "big lie" does. It moves the whole conversation further to one side so we are no longer talking about the obscene profits of the health insurance companies and how they are bankrupting America. It is a little bit like 1930's propaganda about Jews. By the time a majority had figured out that they did not eat babies there was enough general doubt that they still agreed to have them live in Ghettos because, even though they didn't eat babies, they were different.

Oh, I agree completely about the "big lie." When what should be civil discourse at town meetings turns into mob rule, watch out. The inability to at least listen to another's point of view shows mindlessness. Mindlessness is an indication of stupidity, and as we all know, stupidity oftens leads to violence. And the thing about any lie is that once it is put out there, it assumes a life of its own. There have been cases where the liar actually retracts the lie, but the lie is out there and the retraction is not even paid any attention.

Yes, it is a dangerous game. I notice that each of the proposed health reform measures that the Republicans are lying about are actually proposals that came from the Republicans. For instance the "death panel" and the "forced euthanasia" lie is actually about a proposal endorsed by the AMA and written by Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia. But the party out of power just can't kick the drug of stirring up hate. They have unleashed the lunatics and there is no way to call them back.

And if the worst should happen, and blood is shed, you can bet your bottom dollar the hate and lie mongers, Rush, Sean, Glen and Sarah will deftly wipe their hands of any responsibility. Either they have no brains or no conscience, most probably a lack both.

On several questions I have noticed an increase in the number of crazies advocating violence. That is a crummy way to run a democracy.

Check out the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit group which tracks neo-nazi and hate groups. Increasing violence is a real concern. We should not condone extremist voices even when those voices help our own political cause. I am still waiting for the Republican Party to show some adult leadership in this area.

O'Reilly has decided to separate himself a little bit from the wing nuts.

I have noticed a few of the Fox personalities making some small attempts to offer a more balanced perspective. I'm a little surprised O'Reilly has taken a positive step. But maybe now that he has Beck nipping at his heels and screaming down the hallway, O'Reilly can see just how ridiculous he himself has sounded for the past year.

Well, I'm not gonna let hope run away with me on this one. O'Reilly is probably not someone I will ever be able to watch without hearing the whole "WE'LL DO IT LIVE" rant. He reminds me of a used car salesman or a dirty old man trying to hit on you in a bar.

Funny you should mention the dirty old man. I assume you know his reputation and his out of court settlements. When he was on Steven Colbert some time back there was a funny interchange where O'Reilly said something about some liberal guy lurking around the set (John Stewart?) and Colbert said he had a restraining order on him because of his sexual advances. Without missing a beat Colbert segwayed to the next topic by saying "but then you wouldn't know anything about sexual harassment." O'Reilly's eyes flashed but it was too late. He had been had and Colbert was off to the races on another topic. If you saw and new the back ground it was really delicious.

It is hard to tell sometimes isn't it. With Bill about the time I think he has turned a corner and is going to start being more rational he starts sounding like Sean Hannity and using the word "socialist" in every sentence.

Bill'O The Clown is just up to his usual fun tricks.

Why didn't Bill-O make the same speech about how a poorly educated classless hick like Bush could grow up to be President? He made the speech because the subtext is "look, if a black can be president, ANYBODY can."

No ulterior motive - Bill-O's equivalent of a "some-of-my-best-friends speech.

The proper response - "Gee, Bill, how white of you."

He was conciliatory because he was there to sell his books, and Letterman had shown him up on a prior visit; the man isn't stupid.
