Thats not a good enough answer. Why isn't it a local issue? What is stopping local governments from tackling k-12 education issues? And what makes anyone think that the Federal government with a sledgehammer can solve issues that are difficult for people intimately involved with the problem. Because what the government decides to do doesn't just affect a school district in Kansas - it affects everyone. Thats rarely ever a good place to fix issues like that.

No, I want to know why local governments get off the hook. Why no one ever holds them accountable?

Its never trickle down government, its boulder government. A massive weapon to fix intricate issues.

Our states evolved naturally over the course of history. They are what they are both demographically and topologically. If a big enough problem exists within a state then the people in those states have the power if they have the will to move to break away and form a new state. Right now we have the sates people seem to want.

Well in Texas it was the fact that our genius Governor refused to take federal stimulus money to fix the state education. Also, it's all the damn standardized testing and the religious zealots trying to turn our kids into good little Christians. I wouldn't consider South Carolina, Utah, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi very evolved. They're pretty ass backwards. They're more than welcome to secede from the Union and rename themselves Jesusland if they don't want to be team players.

Money isn't the only thing that fixes education. And states and cities shouldn't have to rely on federal money to have a superb education system. You can't just toss money at kids and hope they learn. You have to actually motivate them and tailor a curriculum that educates.

While you have issues with "religious zealots" those same religious zealots would say that liberals are trying to indoctrinate kids on social issues rather than actually deucating them. So potato, potato. One side blames the other for their cultural issues. Thats not helping anyone.

And here you are with the patently biased and reactionary "Jesusland" and "get out of 'my' country" jargon.

You wonder why I keep saying your biased. You've clearly got issues with a culture you don't agree with and want to blame them for all the problems. Its like the hard on against rich people.

Thats why empowering states is so important. That way people can find places that suit their lifestyle and live there happily rather than trying to use the government to force their lifestyle as law. You want to do that and so do far righties.

Bottom line is that money and religious beliefs aren't the problem. Its curriculum and discipline. Creating an atmosphere where people want to learn and that they retain facts not ideals. Part of the issue is plugging parents into their kids lives outside of school. If you don't have that foundation its an issue.

Of course the religious zealots are like that. My sister is married to one. They pulled their kids out of the schools because he doesn't want them "socially engineered." Basically, he thinks that forcing the kids to think for themselves rather than telling them what to think is "indoctrination." They're a bunch of hypocrites. People tell me all the time that I should move to France, so get off your high horse about being biased. They say that on both sides of the fence. It's only considered wrong when one of the liberals do it.

I consider it wrong when anyone does it.

Actually, I think it simply undermines that persons point of view. Its behaving in a manner that you criticize. It's hypocritical. You can either behave like them or you can behave better than them. Thats your choice.

Your point is duly noted. Mitt Romney is notorious for doing this. The more I learn about him, the bigger the turd I think he is.

I appreciate VP Joe Biden's optimism, don't know that I share in it.
National healthcare reform is needed, but there are problems with this one. Republicans and their "individual mandate" clause is not one of the better parts of the bill.
65% of the country are in favor of health care reform, although 21% of those do not favor the current bill, 35% don't favor any health reform by the government.

Is this the Joe Biden that was one of only two or three Senators to vote against kicking ass in Afghanistan after the worst attack on our soil?

He is the dumbest politician of all time making Dan Quayle look brilliant with some of the most idiotic things ever said. His boss still has the all timer though, "I have no idea what happened but the police acted stupidly".

I had to stop watching that pathetic state tv clip when Bob Schitt Head said, "He's going to be the lead attack dog". What? What does that say right there that these Dem idiots feel they need an "attack dog". It proves they cannot win on policy, so they have to attack. Right from the police state commentators mouth. How disgusting.
